Fake Lucid Dream?

Last night I had a dream. I was lucid in the dream. I did the plug nose reality check and it worked! i even yelled out “I am dreaming!” i spun and rubbed my hands together to stay in the dream! later in the dream i flew. but when i woke up i didnt feel like it was a lucid dream at all. i didnt feel conscious in the dream. plus i dont remember all of the dream. Is this a fake LD?

When you think too much about LD’s before going to sleep, you could eventually dream about it. The same goes for everything.
If you had been CONSCIOUS in your dream, like you are conscious in real life, then it’s a LD

Sounds like a FLD indeed. Close, but no sigar. At least you’re on the right track.

Hey, ive had those over 10 times lately. And the latest i was so lucid like im an expert, but i wasnt sure if i was lucid that time. But i say that i was. Also i had a long “lucid dream” before. I knew it was false because i didnt remember everything. Idk, maybe its because i think about LD before i sleep alot. :meh:

According to the definition of lucid dream, it’s a dream, and you know it’s a dream. If you go about shouting “I’m in a dream” In a dream, then it was lucid.

I think I have to agree with Unseen_Eye. It is the definition of a lucid dream.

However, I think this brings up an interesting point. What if in all lucid dreams, you aren’t really conscious and don’t really have control. Maybe, you are just dreaming that you know its a dream. Whatever you do in the dream, things you think you are doing of your own free will, is just part of the dream.

Personally, I don’t think it matters very much. In the end you still are doing what you want to do. But, it may have some implications on induction methods.

What do you all think?

PS - This is my first post on this forum! Hello everybody!

Great to see your first post being thoughtful, welcome to the forum! I do think a lucid dream is conscious, if you’ve had one as of yet, you notice a completely different feel to it, and you can actually think, something I can’t see me doing in a regular dream.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have had a good number of lucid dreams. I think I understand exactly what you’re talking about. In dreams where you become lucid, you do feel like you are really thinking and they definitely feel different. But, isn’t it possible that you are just dreaming that you are having these thoughts and feelings?

I’m sorry. I think this sounds like a circular argument. Still though, whether or not your mind is creating it or you are controlling it, you are still having an amazing experience.

Some of my LDs have been like the one you describe. I am aware that I am dreaming, but it is almost like I am half-asleep in the dream. I make decisions and control the dream, but I am only dimly aware of my thoughts and intentions.

On the other hand, I have had some LDs where I am much more conscious, so I think there is a spectrum of awareness. I don’t think that your dream was a FLD, just a LD where you were only slightly conscious.

Exactly, that how i see it as well. Lucidity comes in many levels. As you doubt your lucidity, i think you actually WERE lucid, but on a low level.

A FLD is a dream in which you DON’T realize you’re dreaming, but you only show lucid behaviour.

So congrats!

Actually I think it was a FLD, but I’m not particularly experienced in this, so don’t take my word for it. >.<

The reason why I think so is that I have myself encountered several dreams where I’ve done the whole: “I’M DREAMING!” thing, to then rub my hands together, and jump out the window and try to fly. I might or might not do a nose RC. However, after awakening, I would be left questioning whether that truly was a LD. In fact, after one FLD I was starting think that if that was all an LD felt like, then they weren’t as amazing as I thought they were.

However, following a FLD, I then had a LD. Here I would proclaim: “I’M DREAMING!” but this time it would REALLY hit me. That true onset of consciousness seems to heighten every sense, particularly that of the rush of air which fills my body despite me holding my nose. Also, in LDs, I would really ground myself before doing anything drastic - I would hold onto imaginary items for a minute, spin, look @ hands, rub hands, etc, before even considering doing anything else like flying. And due to that amazing feeling from that LD, I regained my enthusiasm for LDing!

Basically it’s your intuition - I believe if you’re left doubting whether it is a real LD or FLD, then it’s probably a FLD. When you have a true LD there is absolutely no question that it was a LD. This just my humble opinion , and if the previous poster is right then maybe my definition of FLD is wrong…

Thanks for the info!!

I agree with the spectrum theory, I worked on defining the awareness levels in late 2006, I guess it’s a good time to resume it. Hope you guys like it…(I will compile it and post later!)

I think it was just a low-level lucid dream. When you have a lucid dream, you know you’re lucid. When you have a FLD, you act like you’re lucid (like you make things materialize at will) but you don’t do these things because you know you’re dreaming. You just don’t have that click.
