Falling asleep consciously

It is said that certain tibetan monks trained themselves to remain conscious through sleep in it’s entirety. Not once, through any phase of their physical rest, did their mind ever lose focus and fall asleep. This allowed them to remain conscious all the way through every period of physical sleep and pass right into REM fully conscious.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any links on how to do this or if anyone had any other advice to offer.

I recommend the book The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. Check your library or internet bookstore.

Its well written and offers specific techniques and practices.

I think practicing LDing and meditation are key steps.

Many LDers experience states that are in sleep but not yet dreaming (e.g. black void, or white cloud).

The ability to stay consciousness during the shifting sleep states is a great skill.

WILDing is also obviously a prelude to these states.

Thanx.
