False Awakenings - keys to lucid dreams

False Awakenings seem to have a rather infamous reputation among lucid dreamers - most people who experience False Awakenings seem to complain about “being stuck in a FA loop forever”, “how can I stop having them?”, “these FA’s are so scary, I don’t know whether I’m awake or not anymore!” etc - and to be honest I have always found this a bit unfair.
In my opinion False Awakenings - or maybe they should be called Lucid Awakenings in this context…? - can be a fantastic shortcut to lucid dreams, especially if you have them frequently.
Think about it - since your waking mind is normally active during False Awakenings all you need to do is to make it a habit to always double-check your surroundings whenever you wake up.
This action alone can lead to even more False Awakenings, and with practice you will be able to recognize all of them.
I have False Awakenings several times a week when I become serious about lucid dreaming and I never have any problems recognizing them, no matter how vivid they are, because I have developed a “feel” for what they are like, and so I instantly recognize them even if my bedroom looks exactly the same as in real life - so this really shouldn’t be a problem if you give it some practice.

Yes, it’s true that False Awakenings can be incredibly lifelike and make you feel unsure whether you are really awake or not, and I understand why this can be frustrating for some people; but if you mistake it for reality then it’s only because you weren’t paying attention and weren’t aware enough, and the odds that a False Awakening will simulate real life to 100% perfection are incredibly low, especially if you make Reality Checks and observe your surroundings for several minutes - you will inevitably notice a dreamsign sooner or later.
And why would you ever want to get rid of a False Awakening at all once you have become lucid within it?
It’s a lucid dream, for God’s sake!
Enjoy it while it lasts instead. :content:

Indeed I had quite a few FA that ended up as LD (also some that ended with me swearing out loud later saying “How didn’t I notice I was dreaming?!?!?”)
