Hi all. I’ve been lurking around the main site for a about two months now and I had my second LD last night. The first only lasted as long as it took me to be aware that I was dreaming. I became lucid this time when I noticed my teeth starting to fall out all at once. Once I was lucid I remembered that I could go to a white room, like in the matrix, and explore from there. As soon as I “cleared the scene” I felt as though I was forceably and violently pulled back into the dream scene by my feet. I was gripped by terror but remembered to look at my hands and spin to try to keep from waking up. But the shaking and pulling got more intense and violent and there was a loud crashing and howling sound. When I woke up my heart was racing and I couldn’t get back to sleep. Is this to be expected? If so what can I do to keep lucid through the shaking?
If that happened to me, I would be scared shitless. I’m not sure what to do for that, all I can think of is closing your eyes and saying you want to appear somewhere else.
btw Welcome to the forum!
Strange experience… Perhaps the shaking and crashing/howling sounds were signs that the dream was going to end abruptly? Next time, try to repeat to yourself that it’s all a dream, try rubbing your hands and concentrate on the motion of them and the generated warmth. This way, your mind keeps fixed on dream sensations, thus it becomes harder to wake up. You might end up in a FA, but that’s why you have to confirm to yourself that you’re dreaming. Don’t let yourself be flown away with the dream scene, but keep focused until everything settles down or until a new scene has developped.
Hope this helped
Thanks for the help, I’ll try rubbing my hands next time. As I said I’m very new to this. I’m sure it will take a good amount of practice before I have any sort of skillful experience. It’s like learning to walk I guess.
Hi Illusion of objectivity!
I think it’s interesting and quite normal. Here is my theory. It’s not from personal experience, but from Flo’s one. She’s an experienced LD’er.
When you “clear the scene”, you enter a special state which she called “intermediate state”. In this state, as there is no dream, the first thing which come into your mind will take form. Moreover, it’s more like a WILD state and you can experience sensations which generally occur in WILD. I think it explains the shaking and pulling and the loud crashing and howling sound.
I’ll move your post in the Quest for Lucidity forum, cause I think it could interest more experienced LD’er.
That sounds pretty intense. What you have to remember is that your mind is unpredictable, you dont know what its capable of. My advice would be to just go with it, think to yourself that its just your mind creating it for you.
It was probably just a bad awakening, maybe you got too excited from being lucid and your brain wasnt ready to pull out yet (hence the crazy ‘howling’, which by the way sounds pretty scary). The sooner you get to understand your mind has no limits, the sooner you will overcome this problem.
Speaking of howling, i had a dream the other night that a weird bear thing was chasing me, howling really high pitched. At first i thought i was going to die (It looked shit scary!) but after a while I ended up just being pretty calm and messing around with it, dodging it and laughing and stuff…
-Good luck
