First LD! And some questions about it.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, it happened in a lucid dream, but is sort of relevant to becoming lucid, so I wasn’t sure where to put it.
This morning was my first LD :woo: ! It was on the short side, and I was a bit in a haze, but it was satisfying/rewarding all the same. it started with a false awakening, however where I became lucid was when I realized this: I felt completely awake when I got up. Normally when I wake up I’m exhausted and sort of out of it, but in the dream I wasn’t. Could that be a realty check for false awakenings? Has anyone else had that feeling? I did a nose rc to confirm and I was in fact dreaming. The next thing that happened is a rush of excitement, followed by a fear that the dream would fade. I noticed that the dream posterized (example: farm3.static.flickr.com/2338/240 … 9acd9e.jpg) for that split second. I immediately threw myself back on the bed and grabbed my pillow to try and stabilize it, which worked. I then got up and went out to the living room, where my parents were watching ‘House’. I told them I was dreaming, they said I was, but that they didn’t believe me. I showed them the nose thing and they just rolled their eyes. I then tried to put my hand through a door, which failed. I think my lucidity dropped a bit there, because I then decided to go over to the computer to see how Ld4all looked in a dream (normally i would have gone outside and tried to fly or something), it went up a little bit when I saw that the computer’s clock read 4/6:00, because first of all time doesn’t start with 4/, and second my instincts told me it was 8:00 in the morning (which I realized was right when I woke up), and when I noticed that itunes now displayed 7 (or something along that) of the same album (Meddle by Pink Floyd incidentally). However I got distracted and the dream faded.

I guess my questions are:

  1. Is it common to feel so awake in a false awakening?
  2. Is it common for your vision to get messed up the second you go lucid?
  3. Is it common to completely forget what you wanted to do and instead do something random and mundane?

Thanks, and I hope this is in the right place.

Hi zymos!
1.In every luzid state you feel very awake!
2. ?
3.I would say yes! In your dreams you have other needs and you make other decisions. But you can control the whole thing easily if you remember what you wanted to do. Before you go to sleep you should focus on your prefered dream activities(yes, several activities are also possible)
Good Luck!

I would also want to answer your questions from my personal experiences.

  1. Unlike Flohx, I would say that it depends. On my 1st LD night, I also got a false awakening, feeling very sharp and very awake, but this was only for the first time. After that 1st FA, the upcoming false awakenings varied.

Sometimes I felt just like I normally would after waking up, tired and exhausted, which is very annoying, since you gotta get up and do a RC. But also on this case, I found out that even if you feel tired, you might still be dreaming. So keep this in mind. It is a good idea to do a RC everytime you wake up.

  1. Well. I have never had something like this happen to me but it’s probably just a random thing which just happened to happen to you. I would say its just a silly dream coincidence that your vision got so “messed up”.

  2. Yes, it is hard to remember what you originally wanted to do in the dream. To help you remember, do as Flohx said. Focus on the things you would like to do in a dream and set your intentions. This usually helps.

And congratulations on your first LD!

Thanks for your replies, I thought the whole vision thing might be a coincidence, seeing as I don’t see stuff like it posted very often. I’m definitely going to get into the habit of doing realty checks whenever I wake up now. This one time was very obvious, and I don’t want to miss any future FAs. Thanks again for your answers!

I will answer your questions from my personal experiences in LDing.

  1. It’s common to feel awake in all dreams. Since you are asleep, you can’t actually feel sleepy in your dreams.
  2. That has happened a lot in my dreams. It tends to happen when I stare at something for too long. Try looking all over the place, while taking in as much detail as you can.
  3. It is very rare to remember what you wanted to do. This is because during sleep, the part of the brain that memorizes things isn’t fully active.
Hope this answers your questions.

yeah that answered my questions, thanks :content: . I also realized that the night before this LD I read before I went to sleep, i don’t know if that helps or not, but i’m going to try it again.

  1. Yes. That’s why it’s a false awakening. These can be tricky. It’s helpful to do a RC when you wake up in real life or in a dream.
  2. My vision gets messed up all the time, whether it’s lucid or not. It’s frustrating. I get blacked out. Maybe try and sit down or shout lucidity x 1000 as earlier suggested.
  3. I’m guessing you mean that after you were in the dream, you lost your train of thought, and yes this is common. Lucid Dreaming takes practice, unfortunately. But if you need to keep your train of thought, remeber what you want to do, what you want to try IRL. Keeping a list IRL could help. And when you are in a LD, just think back to the list. If you can’t remember what is on the list, materialize it.

When I have LDs, I always have the problem of repeated false awakenings. Being aware of this, whenever I wake up, I hold my nose and try to breathe through it. If I can, then voila–I know it’s a FA.

I had several last night and they were SO realistic that I almost couldn’t believe I was dreaming. Anyway it’s a technique to try out

yes to all 3

ur just new and inexperienced
do a couple more LD’s and ull be able to differ from all
