Hi, this is my first post although I have been reading the forums on and off for a few weeks.
I always knew about Lucid dreaming but never actually thought that just anyone could do it until I came across this site. Until this point I was one of the ‘I never remember my dreams’ people. Anyway I started trying to keep a DJ and within a few days, I realised that I dream a lot more than I thought I did. Writing my dreams down first thing every morning really did help my DR, but I am usually quite a late sleeper and have to rushout of bed to get ready for work most days so I found it difficult to have time to get my dreams down on paper before they faded.
Last night I was on standby for work and I went to bed about 1.30am. My phone rang at 1.55 and this was my work calling me out for a fault. It only took me 15 minutes to ascertain that it could wait till morning and went back to bed. This is where things get interesting.
I started dreaming and quite early into the dream, something happened that didn’t seem right but this was something that made me ask if this could have been a dream. It was. I was Lucid, I tried to stay calm for fear of waking up and managed to stay Lucid for what felt like a few hours. At one point I was standing in front of a door and I said to myself that there was a tiger on the other side (which was completely out of context for my settings), sure enough there it was, proving beyond any doubt I was really Lucid and Dreaming. I took some time to look around and was really quite surprised at just how real everything felt and I was amazed at the level of detail. The term “Waking Dream” now makes real sense to me. I wanted to try a few things in my dream, one I remember was wanting to try to fly but I couldn’t totally convince myself that I could really do this as everything felt so real it seemed impossible. Then I felt the dream starting to fade so I tried spinning but I woke up anyway.
I felt wonderful that I had my first LD and that it had lasted so long but when I looked at the time, I discovered that I had overslept for work by over an hour. As a result I had no time to update my DJ, this is why I am unsure of some detail of the dream as it has faded somewhat, and had to rush to get into work. My boss was ok about it when I explained that I had been called out at 2am but I am now concerned that the LD may have caused me to oversleep.
Can anyone comment on this as until I know more I am concened that I may oversleep again if I LD. I also realise that this may just have happened because my body needed the sleep so ignored my alarm and caused me to be late.
on a final note though, WOW! My first Lucid Dream although not all that eventful felt fantastic and I really want to have another one, and soon…
