Hi@all. Just wanna share this story with you:
Hamun came to Giben one day with adoring eyes. “I’ve been thinking,” he said. “You’re the only person I know who’s achieved enlightenment, so I’ve decided to become your disciple and obey you in everything.”
“Is that so?” said Giben. “In that case, I command you to go to China, where I’ve heard there’s a man who makes marvellous knives. Bring me one.”
Following Giben’s instructions, Hamun set off and after a long and difficult journey to and from a tiny village in the remotest part of China, he returned triumphantly and laid at Giben’s feet an exquisite knife, handmade out of burnished steel and carved wood."
“Thank you,” said Giben. “Now you must travel across the sea to Cyprus and bring me a perfect fruit from the lemon groves there.”
Again Hamun did as he was instructed and after many months of arduous travelling, both on land and sea, he returned and laid a perfect lemon at Giben’s feet."
“Thank you,” said Giben. “Now you must go to Nepal, climb the highest mountain in the world, and bring me a piece of ice, the size of my thumb, from its topmost peak.”
Again Hamun did as he was commanded and after two years of weary journeying he was able to return to Giben with the piece of ice, as requested - though he had had to design and construct a special box to house it and prevent it from melting. Once again, he set it at Giben’s feet.
“Tell me, oh Master,” he said, “do you have any other tasks you wish me to perform?”
“Yes,” said Giben. “Take this glass to the well and fill it with water.”
Hamun did as he was instructed, though he felt this task was hardly worthy of such a brave and faithful disciple as he.
“Thank you,” said Giben. “Now, watch!” And using the knife, he cut the lemon, squeezed its juice into the glass, added the piece of ice, and drank. “Hmm! Delicious!” he said. “Will you have some?”
“No I won’t!” shouted Hamun, enraged. “You’ve tricked me! You’ve given me impossible tasks which I thought were to help me towards enlightenment, when all you were thinking of was your own comfort. In future you can do your own fetching and carrying, for I shall obey you no more!”
“Ah!” said Giben. “Enlightenment!”
