Dont let the topic title mislead you, this is still about LDing.
A friend of mine has a problem, which goes as follows…
He recently started to LD (like me), but he’s had some LDs. Last night he had his first real controllable LD, but there was this girl he likes very much (IRL), and like everytime he sees her in his LDs, his lucidity decreases. Is it common, and do you guys have any tips? Of course, he could shout Lucidity Now! and stuff, but ofcourse we’d rather have it that his lucidity DOESNT decrease at all when he sees her. Tips/comments?
Aaa… The olde “a friend of mine has a problem” question.
i think you might be excited to c her so that you lose control and the lucidity decrease. I think that if you just are prepared to meet her it wont interfere with your lucidity.
Ehm, it really IS a friend of mine. -.- My own problems are that I cant even get an LD LOL… But his name is Gerretje. He comes on IRC sometimes… Ask Girby (if you go on IRC) >_>
I agree with MorMor, I think your friend might be getting a little excited when his friend appears.
Hope your friend is able to keep lucidity when he meets here again
Talk to her. Yeah, that’s right, tell him to face his fears. I’m not talking about the dream—he must talk to her in real life.
Seriously, tell him to do that, otherwise she will always be a mental block for him.
Actually thats a good point ^^
Bruno, the ladies man
Well im Gerretje and i dont think meeting her IRL will make a difference cause ive met her IRL a couple of times and talked to her. But anyways it might be what Girby said that i care to much in dreams. So he like adviced me to kill some people
It’s a common problem than in LD’s some dream characters make you lose lucidity. They talk and talk to you and you lose lucidity. They follow you everywhere and you feel angry and lose lucidity. They put their hands in front of your eyes and you lose lucidity. Most of time, they look like your close relatives (mother, father, brother, friend, etc.)
IMO, it’s because these persons make you lose lucidity IRL. When you see people you have the habit to see, you act automatically. You’re no more lucid. The same in LD’s.
Gerretje, how did the talk between you two go?
Heh, I have a similar but kind of opposite problem. There’s this special girl, but she lives really far away so whenever i see her in a dream i become lucid, because well i hardly ever see her. And i don’t want to become lucid, it ruins the illusion and most of the time makes her disappear. I don’t really think there’s anything i can do about it, just thought it was kind of funny how one of us loses lucidity when they want to be lucid and the other gains it when they don’t want it.
If she disappears when you are lucid, just make her re-appear.
Bruno, someday your advice is going to get someone killed! It’s not that easy for us shy types, you know. I say he just keeps trying.
It’s not that easy for us shy types, you know.
I know what you mean, Wolf…
No, it’s the opposite. When he is lucid and he sees her, he loses lucidity and he wants to get over that.
Me too
Elemennts of lucidity are still in the subconcious. If he sees her in a dream, it’s probably because he’s thought about her recently. If he’s loosing ‘grip’ on that particular reality, when seeing that girl… Well, it might be symbolic.
Perhaps this girl destroys his concept of reality…
Perhaps one’s own neurosis fears the outcome of this girl existing in one’s reality…
Perhaps one’s own neurosis fears the girl disapearing from reality, thus abandoning reality itself
Perhaps… etc.
Your friend doesn’t need much help - he’s just gotta decide/discover the reason why. Lucidity is an enjoyable and practical way to explore one’s subconcious (& fears!)
