Hey guys, since I’m currently on vacations I decided to try WBTB and see how it works. I’ve tried it a few times a long time ago, I don’t recall ever becoming lucid but I feel very motivated now that I’ve had a couple of LDs.
Anyways, I wanted to know: how much should I sleep before waking up (with the alarm), and also: how much should I stay awake after I wake up with the alarm?
It wildly depends on the type of sleeper you are:
If you tend to fall asleep very fast, and are able to even after you’ve woken up, you can stay for some time out of bed and read something LD-related and whatnot, even for 30+minutes;
if you are a light sleeper, my advice is to stay in bed, and let the drowsiness catch you back right into dreaming, while trying to keep conscious. More of a chaining really, but you can write your dreams while still in bed if you want.
Personally, I like doing my WBTB early in the night, like 3-4 AM, so I have multiple attempts.
Thanks for your reply tosxy. I have a very hard time falling asleep most of the time so I’ll try your suggestion, also I’m not sure if I have read well, but I think that performing WILD combined with WBTB is a very powerful technique. I intend to try that if thats the case!
I’ll post here my results and how my experience went
Good luck FretDancer!
I’ve been doing WBTB every night now for about a week, I miss not getting lucid regularly, but so far not much luck yet. I am a light sleeper too, so I’m still playing with the right amount of time to stay up.
Welcome back TosxyChor! Sure missed you!
Thanks! I gave it a try but with not much success: I set the alarm on my cellphone for the next 6 hours and a half, I put my cellphone a little far from my bed so that way I had to get up and turn it off. So I did and I went back to bed again , I remained awake basically nothing and fell asleep almost instantly I didn’t even had time to try a WILD at this point.
Good luck, WBTB is a pretty good method, I believe. What I find the hardest with it is staying awake long enough get my head straightened out and realize what I’m doing. Since I can fall asleep withing minutes of laying down over the colder months I really have to get myself out of bed when I do this, otherwise I’ll just fall right back to sleep without a second though.
Well, the point of WILD would be keeping aware when you fall asleep, so it seems like you would have an easy time doing so, if you fall asleep so fast: just start being aware (e.g. by mentally counting) before entering the bed
And Kirbypowered, seems like you are on the right track ^^ just follow the guidelines of making you aware and clear-headed enough, but still somewhat sleepy.
Yes I think that was what I missed, I didn’t try enough to stay aware while falling asleep, I just got up like a zombie to turn off that alarm and got back , tried a bit to look at the ceiling but I just fell too quick. But I know It will come with practice, its been a long time since I tried WBTB
