Goth/Cyber/Punk

Hi all,
Is anybody here into goth/cyber fashion, or anything similar? Have an interesting fashion style that you’re happy to share? Adventurous? Non-conformist? Individualist?

I enjoy some goth fashion, though my friends have become a little concerned with my latest clothing desires. Tell me what you think of these cool boots: https://www.grindstore.com/FurtherDetails.asp?CID=5136&PID=&recordCount=1&stockid=20324
They’re quite expensive (at $400 australian!), but I think I’m in love :shy:

Me thinks $400 is too much for a boot… They are nice though. Still…

I don’t personally wear the goth fashion but I do love it.

I like them! Though I must admit my first reaction was to think they were ski boots. Very cool ski boots. But seriously, spending $400 dollars on a single pair of shoes is criminal in my opinion.

My style… well, I don’t really have a style as such. I like to switch around my fashions a lot, too. The most common style I go for is the “sweet and innocent pretty in pink” look, but I’m also pretty good at the “cool indie artist”. In summer I like “pampered rich girl” style, and in winter I let my hair get all tangled and go a bit “geeky intellectual” (mainly because I can’t be bothered putting as much time into my appearance in the cold).

I’ve never tried goth. I’ve got the pale skin for it, but my hair is unashamedly much too light in colour, and I couldn’t dye it black unless I really wanted to commit to the goth look, which I don’t.

What else… ooh, when I lived in Japan my look became totally Japanese schoolgirl, and I definitely pulled it off. My particular figure really suits high-waisted skirts and big shoes, which were very in fashion at the time. On the downside, it means I look terrible in most jeans and tight pants, but I guess that’s compromise.

Those boots rule… drools

Okay, so i don’t wear goth stuff… If i did i would be labelled as a major wannabe. I already am, simply because I told this guy in my school, who is a goth, that i liked his boots…

I used to be street punk. Not the new, fashionable type though, the real kind. Very fun while I was into it.

As for the boots, I’d say if you really want them, get them, but try to think about it this way.

After I stopped being a punk, I ambled around for a year, seemingly lost. I didn’t feel rebellious anymore, but still pined to make a statement. It wasn’t until the end of the school year that Someone came up to me and asked “how can you wear the same thing almost everyday, and still be one of the most unique people I know”

I thought for a second, and just sort of blurted out, “because clothes are a tool. They keep you warm and safe, but they do not define you, and more often than not constrict you, turning you into something you’re not.”

This was a revelation for me. I had always told people I didn’t care what they thought about me, but until that moment, I secretly had. The need to feel accepted is the foundation of fashion. When you break away from fashion, you find your true self shines through.

Just something to ponder.

Good point… I usually wear stuff that i like, and not the latest fashions. Usually, for the moment, i stick to cheap stuff, because the more expensive stuff could be grown out of very quickly. Anyone still in adolescence, think of this story. Once, i bought some new football boots, and for a short while, i fit in during PE. However, a few weeks later, the boots were feeling tight, and I went to get measured. In just a few weeks I had gone up 2 shoe sizes. So, really, personally, i wouldn’t get them, because they might not last long.

Just find your niche, and fit into it. Just wear what you feel comfortable in, and not what you think will make you look good. If you look comfortable, then you look good. But if you don’t like what you’re wearing, whether it be constrictiveness, or just the feel of the clothing, you’re not going to suit that style.

So true!

I really don’t care what the ‘fashion’ of an item is - I buy it if I think it suits me, no matter what style it belongs to. That’s why I mix and match so much. I’ve got clothes for everything. Even goth (if it weren’t for the hair).

hah :content: cool

I used to care more about me looks a while ago, before my life became a race against time and a pool of stress… And I’ll probably start caring more about it next year when this whole senior insanity is over and my life is somewhat stable again.

So right now I’m just being lousy about not only fashion, which don’t usually mind anyways, but even to whether my shirt matches my pants, or if my hair looks OK etc.

That said. Normal Bruno has a weird style of his own. I don’t mean I’m nonconformist or unique, only I’m not dressing to any specific stereotype or ideology, but I’ve seen people who dress similar to me nonetheless. I usually wear Italian shirts—not T–shirts, but shirts with long sleeves and buttons—and jeans.

The shirts are usually white or mostly white, but I don’t like those weird colourful patterns with stripes and stuff people wear nowadays. Also, when I have the time to care about it, I like my hair cut not very short, but not too long, and rocker sideburn. I also prefer contact lenses to glasses, but I haven’t had the time to be bothered with all the ritual of putting them, taking them off, cleaning them, changing them every now and then and buying new ones, so I’ve been using the glasses a lot this year.

As to what I think about the boots: I make ST’s words mine—they are REALLY cool, but boots for $400 are just criminal. If you buy them, be sure to do a LOT of charity work! :spinning:lol: You work with that already, don’t you? Well, than it’s fine—you’re clear to buy those.) Oh—and make sure you take a picture of you in a goth outfit, all gear included, for us! :content:

Good points all around. The thing is, I feel some of these styles calling out to me - I have never dressed to fit into a particular category (that I’m aware of… who knows what subconscious forces act on my choices of clothing?) and actually, I’m certain that I would get a lot of weird looks if I bought and wore the clothes that I want to wear.
I feel as though I have discovered my own style and fashion, not particularly goth, not paritcularly cyber/punk, and not particularly metro or average but more specifically my own unique combination of the above. Is that a bad thing?
yup, $400 - $500 is obscene for a pair of boots. Ironically (or perhaps not) the only other article of clothing which I spent an obscene amount on was a long, black leather jacket. Somehow, I’m sure these two articles of clothing would go together quite well
The only real issue I guess, is to justify spending $500 on a pair of boots that do look like I’m about to go skiing, but hey, if I like them enough, what’s wrong with that?

I’ve recently come through a difficult period of my life where I’ve stopped giving a what people think of me, or my actions, or my outlook on life, or my opinions. I feel more free than I have before, happier than I can ever remember, and feel almost that I have discovered a part of myself that was almost lost (In my studies I have come to know this sense of self as ‘differentiation’).
So perhaps those boots will enable and empower my newly found sense of personal freedom!

Welcome to the club!

It’s good you feel that way, because now you aren’t just another mass produced member of society any more! You are now you, and nobody else. Try to keep this attitude for as long as possible, it’s the only way to be yourself. People will probably hate you for it, but i’m guessing they’re just jealous…

Remember, you are the only “you”, so be you to the fullest extent possible.

My mother have boots like that (exept the flames) but she bouth them a lot sheper on a boot shop in london.

The boots are wicked and one day when I have a million dollars I’ll have no problem buying a pair of boots like that. However, I <3 my boots. They’re vinyl… What on earth is more sexy than vinyl? x)
