Hallucinations? Lucid Dreams? Going crazy?

Hey, I’m new here. I’m not sure if this belongs here, but it sounded most suitable. Something strange happened yesterday morning and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what’s going on.

I’m not sure this is induced by lack of sleep or if it even has anything to do with dreaming, but it used to happen a lot when I was younger too. Anyway, I was sitting on my couch, obviously tired from sleeping only about 3 hours in the past 4 days, but still not tired enough to sleep. Well, all of a sudden I was like flooded with voices. I didn’t really think much of it and kept watching TV. A little bit later I closed my eyes for a few seconds and I was instantly in like a dream mode but I knew I was still sitting on the couch, everything still seemed so real. Anyway, in my “dream” it was just talking to my friend, but snapped back into reality when I relized I was saying everything outloud. I was fine for a few minutes, then it happened again, in this “dream” some lady I didn’t know came up to me and wrote the number 471 on my arm, I asked her what it meant and she told me to remember that number, then I snapped back into reality. This happened about 3 more times though I don’t remember much of them, but each only lasted about 1 minute each. After all this I got really paranoid and started seeing things, such as random shadows moving around and what not. I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else, or if they know what’s was going on. Or know what the number 471 means for that matter.

Sorry. I just now came across the “No Sleep causes hallicunations?” post. But I’m still confused as to what 471 means.

now, i’m no expert here, but i do know that when your brain doesnt get enough sleep, it starts doing strange things. usually you fall asleep before you move beyond the “slow and drowsy” stage, but when you keep awake for days on end without sleep, the norms don’t matter anymore. the lines between dream and reality become fuzzy, and microsleep becomes an issue as well. go too far without sleep, and hallucinations may follow. fading between being awake and asleep sounds strange considering how little sleep you’ve gotten, but i’m not going to be surprised by much when in such an extreme circumstance.

my suggestion is to stop being paranoid, stop worrying and get some sleep. preferably lots of it. your brain does not like going for long periods of time without sleep.

and as for the number 471, this can be just about anything. your mind selected that number for a reason, but that reason could be anything from “chosen at random” to “saw it on tv” to “some part of phonenumber” to anything else for that matter. unless you can think of a good reason yourself for why that number was chosen, then it’s probably a random or meaningless number.

It could be random/meaningless or a fragmentary remnant of some psychological process, but altered states of consciousness have been known to trigger precognitive dreams/visions in some people. I’m not saying this is the case, but just keep an eye out, the number may be important, especially since this has happened several times.

Nothing happens without a reason in this world, even if it’s not immediately apparent.

Thanks for commenting. I finally did get a lot of sleep (about 12 hours) after this happened and have been okay since. I was just concerned because this exact thing used to happen when I was a lot younger and used to get a normal amount of sleep and it hadn’t happened it a long time.

Oooooooor if you want the non-scientific reason, maybe the number does have a meaning other than mental garbage  Remember that many people theorize that when you dream your mind leaves this plane of existence (I’m not talking about OBEs, I’m talking about dreams), so who knows? You might have been in a place like that.
