I have become lucid about three times in the past month and a half–and two of those times were instances where I became spontaneously lucid. The last I became lucid, a reality check revealed my hands to be glowing and purple, so I became lucid that way, as well.
My problem, however, is that I cannot control my surroundings no matter how hard I try. I climb up staircases and open doorways while imagining my desired destinations/dream characters on the opposite side of the door–but it never works out. I can’t change anything to make it what I would like it to be. What is wrong, and how can I fix it?
Long story short, I can’t control my dreams once I am lucid.
I also find it pretty hard sometimes, specially changing my surroundings and summoning things. How many times do you try it? Once I tried it about three times and it only worked on the third! Saying out loud what you want also helps. Imagining/visualizing how it would be should help too.
have you tried to teleport by spinning? It took me some tries but I’ve made it a few times. I close my eyes and spin fast with my arms open (closing eyes can be dangerous! you might wake up…) and imagine I’m slowly appearing someplace else. Then I slowly open my eyes…
I try many times, and I concentrate as hard as I can to get DCs and locations to change or appear. Last time, for example, I climbed up a flight of stairs and saw a door at the top, and as I approached it, I imagined a friend of mine on the other side of the door. When I opened it, it just led to another room I had no desire to be in. This exact scenario has happened many times. I’ve never been successful at changing anything within a dream.
I don’t know if this helps or not, but usually when I am lucid I feel as though I’m not completely in control of my actions–I am doing what I would like to be doing while lucid, but it FEELS as though my body is on auto-pilot.
And thank you for responding, by the way. I appreciate it.
Hmm, if you say you feel like you’re on auto-pilot, it might be that you have a low level of lucidity. Increasing lucidity might help then. Try to remember to shout out “increase lucidity!”, rub your hands and tell yourself to focus. Becoming more conscious in your LD will definitely help in many ways, from auto-pilot-ness to vividness to dream powers! (well, it should at least )
To summon a certain person you can try to do some tricks, since the openning the door thing isn’t working. You can try to shout out his/her name until they answer, or call them on the phone, or even ask another DC “hey, have you seen X?”
Thanks, and I definitely hope you’re right! This sounds like a logical solution to my problem, haha. I used to instantly yell “Increase lucidity!” when I first had LDs, and it always worked. I got out of the habit for some reason (stupidly enough…).
Wow, that’s so creative. I’ll try the phone option for sure. …it never even occurred to me to ask DCs where other DCs are. That one was right under my nose!
“increase lucidity” hasn’t really worked that well with me… But the more lucid you are the clearer the fact you can do what you want is! In theory, of course I’ve noticed also these things can be learned. I used to try to throw fireballs and couldn’t. After trying a few times in different LD’s with no success I’m starting to get better. The other night I threw a weird red fireball that bounced of the ground Flying too, I used to suck at it and am now getting better I think at one point you start figuring out, rationally or intuitivelly how to use these powers.
In the meantime, some tricks might do the trick!
Good luck and just don’t give up, you’ll get it working
