So I had a partially lucid dream a few nights ago. This was my first lucid dream. Heres the dream:
I was in a dim room and I randomly deduced that I was in a dream. in order to affirm this theory, I did a reality check which consisted of counting my fingers, trying to push 2 fingers through the other palm, and breathing with my nose and mouth closed. The first 2 checks failed and the third worked. I then decided to fly but managed only a hover. This decision was more of an instinct than a concious choice. I beleive I was only in a half-conisous state as the next choice I made was completely random and the decision to fly was only partially my own. The next thing i tried after noticing how vivid the dream was to talk in my dream body and in my real body…this had to be my subconsious taking over as this was not a logical quest. When I tried this feat, I either awoke and fell back asleep, or went to the next dream where I told many people of my lucidity. Not sure which occured.
So, here are a few question I have in order to become a better lucid dreamer:
-
How can I clarify or become more consious in the half lucid dreams i appear to have?
-
How can I have these attempts at lucidity more often? (so that I can get better!)
Thanks for reading this, and I would whole-heartedly appreciate feedback, advice, or any other form of support to help me further my lucid journey.
Hi.
It seems you’re having the same problem i had a while ago, where i would have a lucid dream and upon waking, thinking that my choice were not my own.
What worked for me is planing what to do when becoming lucid before sleeping. For instance, before going to sleep, make a movie in your head picturing you becoming lucid (in a location of your choice) and the first thing you will do when you realize your dreaming. For me, it was to look around and try to take in everything i saw around me, but you can try something less generic if you’d like.
As for coming lucid more often, along with frequent reality checks, what worked for me was to simply browse this forum often or chat on the forum’s IRC. I guess that makes your brain think it’s serious about being a lucid dreamer, increasing the chance of lucidity. :3
I’ve only really just got the hang of lucid dreaming, so feel free to ask other people.
Hope this helped :3
I’ve read of this visualization technique and I’ve made a movie of sorts in my head. My “movie” has changed which may be why I semi-consciously chose to fly (That used to be all I thought of to do when I first became lucid).
I do about 10-15 RCs daily, all being the same checks. I first count my fingers and observe my hands, try to push 2 fingers through the adjacent palm, try to breath with nose and mouth closed, then pinch myself. Not sure if these are ideal or need changing but they sort of worked in my half lucid dream
.
What reality checks do you do regularly and at what increments?
Once you had the movie firmly established in your mind, did you have increased consciousness, or just go through the motions half aware as I did with my hovering?
I play video games often, so I basically trained myself to RC when playing video games (for instance, regular RC, then asking myself how I got to this location etc.) This probably ends up being around 10 - 15 times a day as well, so you shouldn’t need anymore, although everyone is different.
For my RC, I first try to breath through my nose while holding it shut, after that I try to force a finger through the palm of my hand. These are the only real methods I use.
When I do the movie thing, and it works in a dream, I usually think about how I’m pleased that it worked, and that seems to increase the feeling of lucidity for me. If that isn’t a case for you, visualize yourself doing something to make you more lucid during the movie, like screaming “LUCIDITY TIMES 100!” or putting on glasses or anything else that you might think will help you.
Also another tip: If you find that you are lucid in a dream, first try to get all your dream body involved. Touch things, smell things and listen to things (or lick thing if you’d like
). This can also increase lucidity. After that, sit down somewhere and think about what you’re going to do next before acting. That way you shouldn’t do things subconsciously.
The advice on thinking about the next action seems like a keeper to me. Ill try to do that whenever my next lucid adventure is
.
