HI and Half-OBE?

I’ve been lucid three times since I started trying a month ago. I use autosuggestion to wake up in the middle of the night and then immediately WILD back into sleep.

Last night, I woke up and started counting…“1…I’m dreaming…2…I’m dreaming…3…I’m dreaming…” and I don’t specifically recall my HI as I drifted off. However, I do remember something remarkable, something very hard to describe.

I felt like I was arching my neck so it would be lifted off of the bed, although further consideration felt like it was the middle of my forehead was arching which is not possible. It was a body separate from my body which I realized was still in the bed…the interesting thing was that I was still semiconcious of my body in the bed. Yet I could not see anything, as my eyes were closed.

Here’s an improptu diagram:

I tried to pull my “spiritual body” out so I would enter a dream or whatever came, but I could not move past arching that spot in the middle of my forehead further. Eventually, I did not slip into lucidity but just normal sleep.

  1. I’ve been doing a small amount of reading about chakras and this spot in my forehead may correspond to my “third eye”?

  2. Has anyone ever had a similar experience? Is it like an Out of Body Experience? I know some people think WILDing is more like astral travel…

What do you think about this?

Interesting you should mention that… A few nights ago, I had the same experience while trying a WILD, only it was like my legs were moving up on their own and my right arm was moving up to my face (to do an RC).

I, on the other hand, felt both pairs of legs as well as all three arms. I, too, am curious if this is possibly an OBE/AP.

just last morning I had a partial OOBE with my legs exterorizing after a WILD. I didn’t go far with this because I rationalized this away as not my imagination so much my physical legs lifting, which they hadn’t. twice I have had the same experience and reacted in just the same way.

does HI stand for anything, BTW, or does it just mean “hi” as in hello?

HI = Hypnagogic Imagery.

thank you for that. on that note, I have found HI useful for getting into LD’s. first you close your eyes, then you notice any patterns in the phosgenes (light patterns seen with eyes closed), notice the HI develop from the phosgenes and segue into a WILD.

this technique I gleaned from a poster on this forum. the time I described, I got into a LD by using that trick. difficulty comes with finding that balance between noticing the HI and yet still not noticing so much that you stay awake.
