Hooded Figure question...

Ummm, I feel a little silly here but bare with me.

You know the nightmare dream I posted? If not, I post it here again I suppose.

I am laying on the floor facing my window. But standing infront of the window, was a hooded figure. He was wearing a black robe (kinda like a monk) with it’s hood up. Where it’s face should be, it was only darkness. I then saw a black mist-like string wrap around me. I began to struggle. I couldn’t break free bbut the figure was consintly tilted his er, head in my direction, as if watching me. When I woke up, my heart was beating and I felt sick.

Now, I believed this to be more than a mere nightmare. SO, being the curious person I am I looked up hooded figures. To my surprise
there was a lot of information about them. And a lot of experinces. Basicly I’ve read a lot of information…and don’t know what’s true or not. And I’ve managed to creep myself out a bit. :shy:

So I’m asking if anyone has any experiences or knowledge about these Hooded figures. Becuase…well, I would like to know more, but from a more reliable place.

Mods, if this is in the wrong area, sorry, and I won’t be mad if you move it.

I don’t have any knowledge on hooded figures but I can relate to that dream. When I was really young (4-5), the first and worst nightmare I remember was me being in my house alone in my room. It’s dark and starry outside. I go to look and standing in the sky, not walking but moving forward towards me, is a hooded figure. Freaked the hell out of me. There was obviously more stuff that happened after that, but that dream was definitely significant. Afterall, 13-14 years later and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Well, I think I’m in the same boat as Wyvern. I can’t say that I know too much on the subject. I’ve had a few nightmare-like dreams with hooded, dark DCs, but I’m not sure that they’re of the type that you’re talking about (to me, they seemed more like the Nazgul of LotR). I did feel a sort of helplessness in fighting them off, though.

Thanks for sharing guys.

Doesn’t it seem odd that one can remember dreams from younger childhood?

I remember a few, one of them was my mom was eaten by…heh…vampire cows! XD

Yeah, I’m still curious as to what they are if they are anything. But the odd thing is I’ve had only one dream like that with the hooded figure. I dunno. I’ll keep researching. As long as I don’t creep myself out more!!

I’ve had a dream once. Not exactly “hooded figures” But close to it.
It was when I was little. I Had a dream I was in my room and I looked our the window, A demontor from harry potter was floating out there!!! I fell to my knees and I woke up… :bored:

hooded figures… I wouldn’t worry about it too much, its a mental thing, I think. The hood speaks volumes of fear of the unknown? Not knowing what is under the hood, or who that is can be pretty freaky. I would imagine there is alot of mythology and stories around that; I would suggest you leave yourself out of it so as to not freak yourself out!

…Does my boyfriend in his velvet black cape and black hood running around playing a silly game of hide and seek count? lol

I once had a nightmare about a hooded figure, about 8 years ago. I was in a dark maze, and I was really scared, and then this hooded dude comes up and starts holding onto me, like he’s gonna eat me or something. pretty creepy.

Perhaps a subconscious fear of death. In the east, the death god Yama is said to take souls away from the body using a death noose. Maybe this is what you are envisioning. An interesting dream to say the least. You don’t have to do too much research though, all that will do is fill your head with more silly ideas to fear. Look inside for the answer. Don’t believe anything you read (including my post  )

Humans are naturally afraid of the unknown. So you get a whole group of scary stuff that works with it. I bet if the hooded guy had, say, a skull face, it wouldn’t be as scary. The darkness is the basis of the “unknown”, therefore it’s easier to relate to it on a scary situation (have you ever seen cheery horror movies, full of light?)

Now, supposedly the guy could look like anything, really, but the whole aspect of the hooded figure is already popular. You see it in movies, games, books, comics, and if you consider monks and such, on day-to-day life (for some).

As bwall said, there’s the whole aspect of Death. Death is usually seen as a hooded guy who kills you. Now, since were taught to naturally fear death, when our SC finds a scary situation, it’s usually related to death, what we usually fear. The darkness/unknown part also fits it, making a “hooded figure” the perfect scary character.

Hmm, thanks for the input guys!

Got those gears in my head spinning again, but in a good way. XD
I’ve only had one dream with the hooded figure, and that was my first nightmare in years. and I’ve not had one since.

sounds like a shadow being or something, i seen em two but only while lucid
i personally believe that they are the same thing as the succubus

i’ve been the ‘hooded figure’’ b4 in my dreams. during those dreams, i am completely invisible to the ppl (DC’s) around me… this happens in both normal and lucid dreams for me… never seen a hooded firgure other than myself b4 tho…

Ive had that happen quite a bit, usually im in my bed and a dark figure is coming towards me, I cant move at all and any cry for help is really weak, like barely a sound will come out. I think its the same as old hag.
Its one of the scariest things ever but when I read about old hag, it seemed kind of funny just because its called old hag. I havent had one since ive read about it though.

Are you sure thats a dream, cause i have that experience when i OBE, wake up on the floor look around and see a hooded figure, shocks me so much i snap back to me body.

Thats the thing, I’m not sure if it was a dream. I can’t remember if that was before or after I had read about OBEs and started to try and have one. Or if my interest in the paranormal had seriously increased yet.
Most of the time I find myself…watching my self in a dream. Third person view I suppose. However, this was through my own eyes.

I’ve never seen it that cearly since, but odd things had/have been happening in my home. Although that is probably just coincidence. That or I’ve finally gone mental.

If it was in your room, and looked more real than a LD then most likely was an OBE if someting similar ever happends again try looking toward your bed to check on your body. I think I’m having nightmares tonight
