Horrifying experience

It’s weird, as a certain thing in my life develops it seems my ability to LD properly works backwards

Basically what happened this time was I realised I was dreaming and it was completely black. I was walking down a corrodor then it turned black, that wasn’t the dreamsign, I just randomly did a reality check like I do (and just did because I’m typing about it). I assume it was all black because it was the end of the dream or something, but nonetheless I didn’t want to wake up so I tried pushing myself somewhere else. I imagined somewhere I know and it started appearing.

Now what was annoying is that because I remembered something specific I want to do in a lucid dream (this has been happening whenever I want to do it in a dream since the first time I did it with success). I don’t have nightmares, but whenever I try and hypnotize myself in a dream (I did it once when I was first starting, it worked because the effects were there when I woke up) I enter freefall.

I’ve been posting here more because I’ve been noticing more problems with my LD’s now. This one has been around for a while but I’m remembering my goals more often now (like really, I’ve achieved a massive list now finally). I don’t think my mind wants me to do it to be honest

I’m not posting this to find help, I just think it’s kind of interesting. It litterally seems like my mind is scared of me hypnotising myself in the dream because the effects work so well (can’t do it normally, hypnotists have failed on many occasions). But it’s always freefall.

Last night it was so terrifying though. I’ve NEVER done this before but I was so scared that I had to wake myself up. It worked, and my heart was pounding. Every other time I just forgot about hypnosis, landed and then did something else. But this time… wow I’ve never experienced anything like it. I of course did a reality check when I woke myself up to be sure I did wake up. But I’ve never intentionally woken myself up before. Coming from me personally, if you know me you’d understand how terrifying it was for it to make me wake myself up.

Oh and by the way, I freefalling into nothing except what looked like some kind of wind effect from a game…

How would you go about hypnotizing yourself?

Well the time I did it before I used a phone box. I dialed the phone number that spelt out 0800 SUBCONCIOUS for some reason with my mind set on the fact that my subconcious would be on the other end.

Ok, I’m trying to figure out what frightened you… was it the dark tunnel? If that’s the case, getting stuck in a dark void isn’t exactly uncommon for people. In fact, it’s normally a sign that dream is starting to shut down. You may have held onto it, but still that seems most likely. If everything is completely black, I would suggest spinning in place so you don’t lose your tether to your dream world and then trying to imagine something.

Now, regardless of the case, your mind does not actively want you to do or not to do something. Your mind is you. Barring supernatural explanations, anything that happens in your mind is based upon what you think, consciously or unconsciously. There is no separate entity making its own decisions for you.

You said you normally can’t be hypnotized… let me put forth a theory for you. Unconsciously (or subconsciously if you prefer), you are actually trying to resist it, however in dreams you don’t. Subconsciously, you’re still expecting it to be something you don’t do, hence the conflict you’re seeing between conscious and unconscious mind.

In this case, what is important is to send the right signals. For starters, deciding that your SC is against you and is resisting you will probably make that happen as it is getting signals from you that say it is supposed to act like that.

Anytime you have issues like this, rather than blame your mind I would take a look at your own thoughts on the subject and try to find out why you are resisting it. I hope all of that makes sense, let me know if I need to clarify :content:

It was the freefall that frightend me. I don’t know what to think after this though: [community.ld4all.com/t/your-most-interesting-ld-part-2/33876/10)
