I’ve been thinking about this recently. Everyone says that it’s essential to keep a dream journal so as to increase dream recall. This in turn, will allow you to identify your dream signs and ensure that you won’t forget any LD’s that you have.
What I want to know is, how can someone forget an LD if it’s so vivid and realistic? I still haven’t had one yet (not enough effort), so this is something I don’t really get. I know that ND’s usually require some effort to remember (except for people who remember them naturally), but I would assume that something so seemingly lifelike would be just like a normal memory.
As funny as this may sound, I’m fearing that LD’s won’t really feel “real” because you don’t remember them in the same way as “real” life.
Even though LD is a lucid dream, which can be real and vivid, it’s still a dream. Dreams are stored in our memories in a bit different way than real life events. To remember dreams, you must be really quick to recall them after waking up. It doesn’t matter if the dream was vivid or not, both of these may cause recalling problems, so it’s best that you have a dream journal to increase your dream recall.
I know that you think it’s illogical to forget a dream where you were conscious, but that happens. Once I remembered a LD after being awake for 10 minutes. A bit more, and I would have forgotten it. It’s certainly possible.
I’ve never forgotten a LD, the closest i’ve gotten to it is remembering it 3 hours after waking up and that was probably because it was short and wasn’t very lucid. Pretty much I’ve noticed that if you wake up feeling really good I’ve had a LD .But I’m not saying you shouldn’t keep a DJ.
DJ are great because they give you better DR and DR is great because It lets remember the details of your dream. Getting an LD and then only remembering the dream and the storyline but not knowing the details of it sucks, worse then missing a dream sign. If your able to keep a DJ definitely do it, if you don’t you forget all your ND and your LD have no details. Just example of one of my LD from when my DR sucked, All I remembered was doing a RC, thinking this is so realistic and then flying but I had no idea what everything looked like, why it was so realistic and the flying, I just remembered the thought of doing it.
Haha because I’m so lazy I didn’t read your last sentence till now, thats pretty much what happens. If you can’t keep a dreamjournal use AS/MILD to remember your dreams. Good luck ld
you can forget, and it’s annoying. i have had a few times where i had a LD, happy happy and stuff… then i wake up… where was i? what happened? after lying inbed for 5 minutes i suddenly realise, i had a LD! but then i understand i forgot half the details
you can’t always remember even RL memories that well. i mean, try remembering what you did yesterday. you will have forgotten half the details at least, if not more. a LD is kind of like ‘yesterday’, because between you LD and WL there will have been a period of several hours (usually) of non-conscious sleep. if you have a LD and wake up right after it - you won’t forget for sure. but if you had your LD a little bit earlier and then just “slept”, then the chances to forget do exist
I suppose that’s something I’ll just have to accept then. Looks like my DJ is going to be getting a little more attention from now on
This was something I thought of about an hour after posting this topic. It makes a lot of sense, because frankly, I remember about as much of yesterday as I do (proportionally, I guess, since I was awake yesterday for far longer than I was in REM sleep last night) of my dreams. It would be interesting to see how increasing awareness of life in general, i.e. practising lucid living, relates to dream recall.
It’s not actually that hard to forget LD. I remember I had a LD where I was like: ok, I’m having this LD for some time now and maybe I should woke up to write that down because maybe I won’t remember all the details, but nahh this is way to cool!
And it was exactly like I expected, I woke up but I didn’t remember all the details, and I had a few LD where I forget almost all the details but I didn’t forget the fact that I had LD…
It’s very tricky with DR and like others said lucid dreams are dreams same as non lucid dreams and if you don’t practice dream recall they can fade…
