How do you visualise?

Would be interested to hear how people visualise. I’m making a list. My own visualisations seem to be one of three categories:

  1. I imagine I am somewhere else and seeing the thing I want visualise.

  2. I imagine the thing I want to visualise is in the room with me (I kind of ‘project’ the image into the room).

  3. I visualise the thing I want to visualise on paper.

How about you? It’s something I realised I’d always taken for granted. Are there more ways to visualise that I’ve missed?

This is also how I do it. I can also imagine sounds and feelings connected to the image, if it is an undisturbed time and place. It has worked surprisingly well to imagine/visualise the scene I want in my DJ, both posting it on LD4all and physically writing it. I also sometimes visualise things outside of my field of vision, for example around a corner.

When you visualise the thing round the corner, is it kind of like you have x-ray vision? Do you visualise it the same size as it would appear if you had x-ray vision, or do you “zoom in” a bit?

Another one I like to practise sometimes is visualising something behind me - like I have panoramic vision.

Double post, edited together. :mattias:

I can’t visualize at all and that makes me sad  I’ve read one or two exercises, but I haven’t tried them seriously and don’t feel like I notice any type of progress or anything. I’d like to find someone that couldn’t visualize at all and learned how, I’d never leave them alone

I often “visualize” feelings, tastes, and smells easier than objects, though all of them not very hard, even in distracting times and places. I guess I have kind of a knack for it! :dragon:

But anyway, I just imagine them in a void, then they/my mind create fitting surroundings in my mind. I can project though.
