how to get/stay motivated

hello there!

i wanted to ask you how you get/stay motivated to do all the LD excercices and stuff, even if theres a lack of energy and/or time. right now im pretty busy learning for my exams and just getting along IRL so its kind of hard for me to keep the motivation up.
i recognized that talking to other people about lucid dreaming is really helpful to “get the fire back”, but i overstrethced this method a long time ago and every one of my friends is like “here he goes again”.

any other ideas? and how to prevent frustration caused by failing techniques?

thank you!

[i did a search for “motivation” but i dont think that the results fit to my question or the way i want this topic to turn out. if you think differently, feel free to contact me - or the mods :content: ]

I never really bothered to talk to people about LDing. That’s what the forums are for IMO. Sure it would be nice to talk about it with a buddy you’re close to, but the average person won’t think twice about really learning about LDing. I really just try to LD whenever I can. (Vactions/Summer time) I really can’t do during the school year… During the school year, just getting a few hours of sleep is a Godsend. Just keep trying. eventually you’ll get it. Don’t try to hard though. Just go with the flow.

During classes it’s a lot harder, I know. It’s hard to get time to sleep, and the stress doesn’t help. Maybe you can get a bit more time on the weekends, that’s what I used to do…

What I try to do, to help stay motivated, is blow the good things way out of proportion. I mean “Hey, this LD was 4 seconds long instead of 3!” or whatever. If you get close to a LD but don’t have one, don’t focus on the fact that you didn’t have a LD, focus on the fact that you got really close. Know what I mean? Focus and try to get happy and motivated about any little vicory and just ignore the bad stuff (or use it to challenge yourself!)

Spending time here on ld4all or other sites reading about LD’s helps too. I don’t personally know any other LD’er too. The internet is better than nothing though. If you want, just send me a PM and we can talk about LD’s and our experiences, that might help.

I agree with mattiasdavis. Stay possitive. Keep in mind that the ultimate goal isn’t to become lucid every single night. Some ND’s can be just as awesome as LD’s. And also, i don’t know if everyone is like me, but usually when i get less motivated to try techniques (excluding reality checks), I often have an LD. It’s also a lot more fun to LD when you’re not expecting it. You’ll feel very proud of yourself.

Yeah! this has happened to me too. For example, I do techniques as much as I can, and then one day I go to bed really tired so I tell myself I’ll just have one night without even thinking about LD’s and I end up having one. :content:

thank you for your answers!

im trying my best to stay positive but the stress (exams)keeps bugging me though ^^

@ mattiasdavis: ill come back to your offer some time  thx!
