I can't sleep on my back?

I’ve had this problem for several years now. I can’t sleep on my back, when I do fall asleep on my back it’s a very light sleep, and well, I not only wake up easily but my body twitches and its almost as if these small twitches are making my body flail, abruptly waking me up. I want to sleep on my back not only for aesthetic reasons (You don’t get as many wrinkles? lol) but because when practicing WILD it really helps…I’m quite irritated about this. Any help would be really appreciated on this topic.

You don’t have to make yourself uncomfortable to be successful with WILD. WILD doesn’t require you to be on your back when you fall asleep. Just sleep how you’re comfortable. It doesn’t matter how you sleep to WILD. Just sleep how you would normally sleep. :content:

And fewer wrinkles? I have to laugh, I’m sorry. I’d never heard of that. I’ll sleep how I want, wrinkles be damned! I honestly don’t think it would have much difference anyway.

There has been research, I know i sound absolutely silly. But sleeping on your back somewhat gives you a mini facelift. However long it lasts, whatever, take it for what its worth. Just something I like. I am comfortable on my back. I would love to sleep on my back, and not my side. I feel like the pillow is squishin my face when I’m on my side. It makes no sense I spose. Ah well. I get a headache from sleeping on my side or my tummy too. I should have told you all the details XD sawwie.

That’s okay. I do sleep on my back during naps and such, but usually I’ll find myself on my side once I’m in deeper sleep or am just plain tired. But if what you’re saying is the case, then I don’t really know what to say…

That’s fine, I wish I knew the answer as to why it’s happening as opposed to really fixing it, because it’s not a big deal. Id like to know why my body twitches as its going into SP, and why my sleep is so light. And WHY the dogs always seem to bark as I’m trying to WILD! blah!

It’s true, you get wrinkles if you don’t sleep on your back. LOL. There was this time, my friend was sleep deprived/ insomnic and could only sleep when laying on his side at the time for a couple of weeks. He got this one big crease wrinkle under his left eye. (he slept on the left side of his face.) It finally went away a bit after getting Back to sleeping on his Back. :content:

OK, enough funniness; here’s the business:

To start being able to be comfortable falling asleep on your back you have to Train Your Body!
Your body is like a puppy. It has to learn slowly. Take short relaxation sessions a few times a day, laying on your back. . Training your body for 5 minute, then later 10 minutes, and then 20 minutes. Teaching it that it is nice to be on the back. Learn some relaxation tips.

About the twitching: it is because you have Tension in the muscles. let it go. stretch first.

When you say it’s like a puppy…I should know this. I’m a dog trainer! yeesh, thank you for that. Actually last night I went to sleep on my side while trying to relax and see what SP felt like, I ended up waking up (no dreams of course) on my back and my arms were stretched out. Odd. I’m going to post this on another topic I think, but I find when I try to concentrate on being aware while my body falls asleep, my body gets so far, and becomes slightly paralized, I can still move though, but I seem to never ever ever get to sleep. I feel like my heart-rate starts to go up and I need to remain more calm. It’s like it prevents me from getting to sleep sometimes, even after I’ve finished trying to make my body go through SP whilst still being awake.

First and foremost consider that you spend roughly 8 hrs a night, a third of your life in that bed. Spend the extra money and invest in a good mattress.

Put a pillow under your knees. Also, you may want to use a thinner head pillow than one you would use when sleeping on your side.

Also, try sleeping on your back, but twisting your head to one side so your not ‘entirely’ changing from side to back.

I’ll be spending more than a third of my life sleeping  But actually, I have a weird situation, I do have a great bed, It’s just in storage because I had to move back in with my mom and I’m sleeping on the bed that’s in the guest room until I can move out again so its just a situation I’ll have to deal with for a short time. I actually did turn my head to the side, only to experience discomfort from it. The thinner pillow might or might not work, i have a thin pillow and feel like it’s too thin…hmm I’ll take the advice though, thank you!
