Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and I would like to say that actually having the lucid dreams was never a problem for me, I had this kind of dreams since childhood.
I don’t know if this might help anyone, but someone told me once that to recognize dreams you just have to try and read something, becuase you can’t read during dreams. The way I identify a dream is because it really stuck me that I COULD read stuff, so when I’m dreaming I always find myself trying to read and thinking “It’s a lie! I can!” so I become conscious that I am dreaming.
But lately I’m having a recurrent nightmare, at least twice a week I have the false awakening nightmare several times. It’s perfectly lucid and all’s normal except the darkness: I feel darkness and try to turn on the lights but none work and I go crazy until I finally wake up. Or I’m paralyzed and try to turn on the light but can’t. Disturbingly, I find I turned on the lights in my sleep, so that’s why I’m starting to hate lucid dreaming.
Whoo, I’m sorry about the length of my post.
I hope I’ll enjoy my stay in this forum.
Do you mean that you turned the light on for real while sleeping?
There there. It’s not lucid dreaming you hate. It’s the nightmare. Maybe you can find a way to use your lucidity to resolve it. Maybe since it’s dark you should try to listen. Not that i want to put a scary thought into your head but, Maybe someone is with you in the dark. If there is, try to talk to them! Or maybe you can feel your way to a brighter place and have some fun.
You should control your emotions and instincts, maybe that could help. Instead of freaking out because something is scary remember; your at home where your physical body is safe, and your in your own mind where you are 100% safe.
or just sleep with the light on. if you wake up and it’s dark, you’re dreaming, and then knowing this you can relax.
(i’ve actually been sleeping with my light on for many years. it started when i had my bedroom in the basement (no windows, no sunlight) so i’d leave it on so i wouldn’t wake up in pitch darkness in the mornings. it just stuck thereafter, got used to it to the point where i preferred it.)
hey wait a minute… you said you turned on the lights WHILE sleeping? well if so that’s totally different, that’s sleepwalking and you really gotta watch those FAs in that case because you might burn the house down after you think you’ve woken up and you go downstairs and start cooking breakfast…
