If you speak any wierd european languages...

I speak catalan!

How did you hear about it?

I’ve heard about catalan, I even think I’ve heard a song sung in that actually. It sounded a bit like a softer spanish.

I want to learn hungarian too. I’ve heard that it’s supposed to resemble finnish, but I haven’t found any real similarites yet.
But, I also want to learn romanian, japanese (reading it in school now), arabian, latin, norwegian (well, I understand it pretty well) and russian. I love different languages. :content:

I’ve read on wikiedia that both Finn and Hungarian belong to the same language family. I think Finn would be interesting to learn, although I understand it’s a very difficult language.

Yes, but it’s very pretty. At least to me.
The grammar is diffucult, and very different to english, french or swedish. But, it is very easy to write, because it’s very logical in that way.

Hmm, I think here in germany catalan is more or less common knowledge (that it exists, not how to speak it).
I really would like to learn some eastern european language like polnish, hungarian, russian. Well, I would like to speak it, not to learn it…
I very much like the sound, more than the sound of suppousedly nice languages (french, spanish). However, that’s not enough to motivate me to learn it, so for now I’ll stick to practicing the very useful spanish.

In swiss there is “samish” (or whatever it’s written in english), that probably makes for the most weird european language (it’s older than latin and only few people still know to speak it).

About the synonyms:
Well, there are hardly any “perfect” synonyms, probably none. But yes, as a non-english speaker you get the impression that there are quite a lot of words coming from different languages that mean pretty much the same. When there are differences in certain contexes it makes it alle the more difficult. Though, still I am convinced that english is one of the easiest languages.

I was guessing he was Spanish… :eh:

You want to learn almost the exact same languages that I do!
