I'm Lucid, But I Wake up Before I Can Do Anything!

in the last 2 nights 3 times i’ve become lucid, was there for a few seconds then woke up! I can’t stay in the dream! Please help me! Oh and I already tried the handrubbing thing! Thanks!

Hello! There is also a technique called ‘Dream Spinning’ where you spin just before you think the dream is about to end (in your dream body). While spinning, you can think of a place to go if you wish. Also, getting really excited during a lucid dream will trigger you to wake up so trying to stay calm in your dream will most likely make you stay in it longer

:content: thanks i’ll try that next time

Stare at any object in your dream. That’ll keep the dream from changing into another dream, and it’ll help keep you asleep.

ive tried the staring technique, but for me everything around the object just changes forms.
i guess my dreams are just too erratic.
i find the best way for people who have random/erratic dreams to maintain focus is to establish a storyline in which you will do things, kinda like a to-do list.
focus on these things, and everything comes into place, some things you dont want there, some are just convenient.

That happened to me when I attempted to have my first and only lucid dream so far. It’s quite frustrating. I tried to find a building to jump off of and fly, but didn’t get a chance.

Looks like you’re having problems with dream stability. The method of spinning around in your dream body has been mentioned but I may as well say it too to back it up. Staring at things, repeating a mantra, and interacting with the environment may help, you’ll have to find one that fits you. :peek:

Also, staying still and not doing anything can cause you to lose lucidity so always try to do something while lucid! Don’t get too exited as the dream will destabilise too!

This was a big problem to me , and the advice that I can give you is :
touch things , use your senses , and try to convince yourself that you cannot wake up until you decide to , the last one I didn’t try it yet .

Just try what I said, Cheri.

As Mithokey said, try not to get too excited, but I think as you get more used to it it’s not as much of a problem, since I can be at least somewhat excited in my LDs without losing the dream, but I’ve been LDing for a while so I know the feeling. Personally I don’t use the hand rubbing and spinning much (mostly cause I forget) but if I do remember, I just use them to keep the dream a bit longer so it doesn’t disappear automatically, but it seems that’s what you need, so give it a whirl! (Literally!)

Also, something that I’ve done before and is used in parts of other things is to imagine your scenario/dream. I’ve woken up before, sometimes not completely, (don’t move or open your eyes if you try this!) but occassionally I can manage to get back into a dream or go into a new one by visualizing and imagining. Especially when I’m trying to back to sleep without moving, I’ve noticed it works if I just observe my imagination start to go, but I’m sure continuing to imagine the dream while you’re in it or imagining a new one might be able to help you stay in a little longer rather than focusing on the fact that you feel like you’re waking up.

I don’t know how well that would work for you; it might be easier to start off with something a little simpler (or how about a simpler explanation from me? o.o ), but that’s my suggestion that others haven’t already posted.

Good luck!

Hmm… Try not to open your eyes next time. If you don’t open your eyes when you awake you can literally suck yourself into the dream again, just imagine it. But, if you open your eyes, closing your eyes again and sucking yourself into the dream will most likely do nothing.

One good thing about this tech is then you can try it out after you tried out all other methods. Just say to yourself the moment you become lucid that you will not open your eyes when you awoke.

I have this problem too, 4 LD’s 4 seconds each, I just need to calm down, and get something to do, and something to focus on.

Do you get exited in your dream when you become lucid? You should try remaining totally calm when you become lucid, that will likely keep you from waking up.

I like the spinning technique, but I haven’t had much of a chance to compare.
