Last night was my 2nd attempt at trying to remember my dreams. The first night was very successful i was able to remember the last scene of 3 dreams. After each dream i immediatly picked up my dream journal from the side of my bed. But i read some things saying to lay in bed and try to remember after waking up. I tried this last night and ended up geting nothing down in my dream journal at all and just forgeting the dream completly as i lay in bed and fell back to sleep. What do you guys do? Immediatly write in dream journal or try to lay and remember before moving to get your journal? Also i remember doing a dream check in one of my dreams but i couldnt remember anything after that am i geting closer?
The rule is to always write in the dream journal immediately after awakening. The longer you wait the more you forget. At least for me. If I have a really vivid dream or a lucid one I always write down as soon as I wake up. If it’s a dull dream, I wait longer, or just not even bother to write it down which will result in me forgetting about it.
For around 2 days ago, I remembered 6 dreams I had…
Well it’s best to lay still and stabilise and recall more of the dreams while avoiding going back to sleep! and then make sure you write it in your dj. If you immediately sit up and write down as soon as you wake … you will probably lose any other dream memories
If you move right after you wake up, you will probably ruin the recall of the dream…
People will usually advise you to lay in the bed for awhile, until the memory of the dream stabilizes, then write it down.
But yeah, some people might start forgetting it the longer they wait.
It really should just be on how you feel. If you feel like when you wake up, you remember everything, then I would start to write it down, but if you feel like your missing something you might want to try recall your dream.
When you wake up, don’t immediately get up. Lay in bed, and you might be able to drift back to sleep, which could give you an advantage on trying to Lucid Dream. Recalling a dream is important, but actually having an LD is the better goal.
Do what works for you best
after I wake up from a dream I usually imagine dumping my entire dream into a memory bucket so I won’t forget it when I fall back asleep.
When I recall my dreams, I sort of like hold on to the parts, instead of just going through them and hope I’ll remember it when I get up. Sort of like replaying the parts over and over in mind even when I reach for my journal, it works for me. Also as I “replay” the parts over and over eventually a missing part would pop up, and I replay that as well. I don’t try to remember missing parts, cause it never works. It just comes to you. So don’t try so hard to remember. Replay the parts you remember and it’ll come to you.
Just speak out loud what your dream was about - It’s easier to remember stuff you’ve experienced when awake, so if you tell yourself (when awake) what the dream was about (Detailed or simply keywords) you will remember your dreams as if they occured while awake. Technically speaking.
Works for me every time. I say the dream out loud, and 10 hours later I remember it perfectly, with graphic memories as well.
