I had an interesting lucid dream last night in which I became aware of my dream state, unknowingly slipped into normal dream mode, then later became aware again after sighting a dream character from earlier in the dream. Not only that but I got to experience that transitional “void” that comes about when switching to another dream setting or waking up altogether. I found it exciting because it was just as described by Robert Waggoner in his Lucid Dreaming book. The struggle to keep the dream alive was interesting. I knew what was about to happen, I felt my presence in the waking world but I was still somehow connected to what was going on in the dream. I could hear the scene which I was waking up from and, at the same time, felt the comfort of my bed. Also, this was the third or fourth time I projected the Dream Clock into a lucid dream. Since the dream state was already vivid and pretty solid, I was able to make it appear by blinking. There it was, as good as real. However, this time was different. My own version of the clock does not include a setting for Real World time, just Dream Time. My rationale is that perception of time in real life can shift, so setting a real world time in a dream isn’t convincing enough to me for it to function properly. Instead, the clock displays HR:MIN with a button that reads “Go!” below it. In this dream, however, MIN:SEC was displayed. On one hand, it seemed to function great. I would say my awareness lasted for what felt like 10 real world minutes. Perhaps I find it more likely that the dream would last minutes instead of hours so functionality was improved. On the other hand, seeing the seconds tick-tock was too much of a reminder that my time was running out (time is something I get anxious about in real life; wondering how much time I have left and if I’m using it most effectively and productively). Perhaps this anxiousness is something I can solve within my dreams. Anyway, this is my third lucid dream within the past five days and one of the most solid lucid dreams (as in no shakey walls, floors. rather, a pretty good sense of gravity, for as long as I want, and detail) I’ve had thus far. I hope this sense of control manifests itself in my waking life. I find more and more parallels between the dream world and the waking world (yes, I will refer to it as the waking world as opposed to the “real” world for now on) everyday. I thank you all for your tips and advice, I look forward to sharing more experiences.
