In-dream memory?

Just wondering your thoughts on this. A couple of nights ago I became lucid when I was speaking Japanese to someone who doesn’t speak Japanese for some reason. I speak basic Japanese but the words I was saying (I can remember) I didn’t know I knew… I know them now (which is good I guess? LOL) but I didn’t before I went to sleep. I’m thinking it might be because I watched some anime before I went to sleep and heard some of the words whilst reading the subtitles and remembered it short-term.

The fact I became lucid doesn’t really have a lot to do with it, but I usually wake up after I LD for some reason, not because I wake myself up, but… I don’t know why. I’m posting this to ask if anyone else has had anything like this? I don’t know if anyone knows anything about what kind of memory access you have when you’re in a dream.

Due to what dreams appear to be for, I can only assume you’d have access to your short-term memory within it, which leads me to believe lucid dreams might be useful for memorising things, if you’re lucky.

note: yes I did google the words to confirm they meant what I thought they did in the dream, what I was saying made perfect sense…

I don´t know about the memories, but that is an AWESOME way to learn new languages!

The mind can do some amazing things while dreaming. For example, I once fell asleep, listening to a chapter of Lord of the Rings that I recorded some years earlier, and the next day I realized that I remember the entire poem about Earendil almost word for word. That’s about 3 pages of centered verse in my book!

I have since tried to reproduce the effect but to no avail. I guess it’s just about hearing something in a specific frame of mind in just the right time.

Weird, you just reminded me of a strange dream I had once (years ago) that actually explains why I know the dragon in my dreams (James Rofles’ documentery) off by heart for no apparent reason. I can even remember waking up now and seeing the end of it. I fell asleep to some channel on justin.tv and I entered a dream where I was watching some guy who doesn’t exist act out “The dragon in my dreams” word for word, all I was thinking was “Jesus christ why the hell is this guy ripping off James?!”. It really got me angry! LOL. It was probably on in real life, and it just happened to playback ni the dream.

tl;dr: Dreamed about documentary, someone else stealing it, woke up to see the documentery ending on my PC screen. Now I remember it completely.

It really is possible, now, if I could only figure out a way to get all of my college courses inside my head, then I can really use this.
Just pop in a Calculus CD before I go to sleep and I’m set.

This is an interesting subject. I used to listen to music when i was a kid to try memorise the songs i wanted to learn haha. Never did have much luck though  . but then i find it hard to remember things word for word in my dreams, I dont have the best memory in the world though

Really nice…I think that lucid dreaming is seriously the helping tool for everything. Looking at what you said in your dream in Japanese, which made scenes, really opens up more doors and uses for LDing. Just think about it…memorizing stuff perfectly, learning new things, creating new art and compose music by adding sound you’ve heard through-out the day from your memory together, or just mixing 2 songs into another one…and that’s just memory-related stuff.
