Influence even in an ND?

I had a weird experience last night in the midst of a very, very strange dream.

Basically I was tied to the top of a train travelling across the ocean, suddenly within the dream I stop and think, hang on, wont the waves stop the train from moving? So I decide the train should travel in a bay where there were less waves. It really felt like an everyday decision, like id actually influenced the dream. I wasnt lucid though.

Any thoughts?

You may have been partially lucid. I mean, you understood that something about your environment was wrong, but you just didn’t make the connection that it was wrong because it was a dream.

That’s what I call a Pre-lucid dream. It has the feel and situation where you know that if you had only questioned it a little bit deeper then it would have been a full-on LD.

And I see that we still can influence our ND’s with our thoughts. Just look through your DJ and I bet you’ll see how you changed your dreams, but didn’t get lucid. It just happens like that a lot.

:rc:

You may have experienced a FLD (false lucid dream) in which you can control the environment just like in a LD, but arent lucid.

I think your thoughts shape your dreams all the time (especially fear). If you fear something in your dream, it very often suddenly occurs out of nowhere in your dream right after you thought about it. At least that’s my experience.

Your brains don’t understand ‘negatives’. So if you think ‘I must not fall’, your brain hears ‘I must fall’ and you will often fall in your dream as a result. Or if you step on thin ice and think ‘I hope it does not break’, then you can better step of the ice asap.

Thanks all for your help! I appreciate all the posts

Gosh… if only I could get lucid now, after all this haha

these FLDs take very strange turn some of the times… just recently i saw a dream where i was controlling things with my mind…like moving objects, doing mental tricks, changing environments, making a girl play a certain song of my choice on piano…stuffs which i wish to do when i get lucid…except that i dint get lucid anywhere…damn it…

We influence the dreams with our thoughts all the time, actually, since the dreams are made of our thoughts. Control in a dream could then be defined by how much you are aware of this dependency, and are able to exploit it, while in itself lucidity is something different, i.e. your awareness of the circumstances.

I don’t think you really have to be lucid to control your dreams. In any normal dream, you can assume powers for yourself that would be completely unrealistic, but just as with everything else that’s unrealistic in your dreams, it doesn’t mean you’re lucid.

For instance, the other night I had a dream where I had the power to clone myself (well, actually this was a pre-lucid dream but that was only because I was an idiot, not because of the cloning). Since other people had the power to clone themselves as well, it was not obviously a lucid dream to me. This same idea could be extended to any power over the environment as well (It’s magic!)
