Does anyone here practice self-observation (e.g. pretending there’s an extra ‘you’ that observes what you are doing throughout the day in the 3rd person) as a way to become self-aware during your dreams?
I have a feeling that might be cryptic, so here’s an example.
All day today I tried very hard to imagine that I was my own guardian looking at myself do things in the third person. So when I was typing on the computer, I would pretend there was some invisible entity to my left that was watching me from another angle as I did this. Then when I went to sleep, I tried imagining that I was looking at myself fall asleep in the third person. I was hoping that I would be able to focus my conscious on this third person view just enough to do some type of WILD. It’s really hard to get to sleep and be conscious of this at the same time, so I’m wondering if anyone else has done this successfully.
This route of leading a more “lucid life” as a means to become aware in dreams appeals much more to me than doing reality checks during the day. I don’t see there being much value in asking myself if anything around me should not logically be there or in asking myself where did I just come from during my waking state, but I do see there being value in becoming more self-aware during my waking state and surely self-observation is a good way to do that.
Any thoughts? Is anyone else doing this?
