Not at all. 
Are all your dream characters that consistent, or are most of the more random kind?
I have a few who come back, and they act like friends too, and remember the earlier times we have met in dreams.
This touches a bigger discussion about the nature of dream characters, though. Personally I believe they are parts of our own subconscious, and show up in that form for some unknown reason.
