Is this some level of LD?

Sometimes when I’m trying to go to bed, I hear a random noise or something in my head. I try then to manipulate the noise, and try to make it say whatever I want. I can then literally hear it, as if it is being called. Yet, I’m am still technically like awake, I can open my eyes any second. Would this be like WILD, or whatever, at least the beginning of it?

Welcome, Jaja. :handshake:

Might be the onset of WILD, might be an out-of-body experience. It’s a side effect of sleep paralysis. Very common for people to hear things that don’t exist before falling asleep. It’s called hypnagogic hallucination. The Old Hag is a negative form of this effect.

It sounds like Hypnogigic hallucinations. Basically. when we are falling asleep. our thoughts become more tangiable. It’s fun to imagine sounds, you can do it at any time but when falling asleep it gets louder.

I’d say it is HH, apart from the manipulating part. Has anyone ever managed to manipulate HH?

Mine are always very ephemeral and random. I don’t think I would be able to manipulate them at will.

I think that HH are manipulable in the stage where you are still sort of imagining them. Before they turn really vivid.
I guess that’s more visualisation than HH. I’m not 100% sure where the line is drawn between HH and imaginings. I think the line is blurred.

We need to remember that real dreams, the big healthy and vivid things that can seem true to life, that these are functions of REM Sleep. Hypnogigic hallucinations, on the other hand, are dim and shadowy.

The only way that WILDing can really have any significant results, besides in shadowy and dim experiences, is for some sort of thread of consciousness be maintained until one hits a true REM cycle. Early in the night when REMs are spaced at about 90 minute intervals, this would be difficult. But toward morning when REM cycles are coming more closely spaced, then one may hope to hold a Hypnogigic hallucination long enough to carry it into a REM Cycle, and then it would turn into what would be understood as either a Lucid Dream or an Astral Projection, however one wishes to understand it.
