I have a few questions that I always think as i’m lying in bed, using one of the methods, but I always forget to ask them, until now!
When i’m using the WILD technique, I lie in bed, counting upwards, saying “i’m dreaming” whilst being very aware of my breathing. I do start to feel a little… different after a while, like there’s something that’s trying to suck me in, but i can’t quite get enough suction to be pulled in, if that makes any sort of sense? It’s the best way i can describe it. Then, when I don’t get sucked in, i try again, and again, and so on. This is when i’m lying on my back - should i be lead on my back? on my side? which? lying on my back is comfortable for a while, and seems the most appropriate, but it does stop being comfortable after a while, what do you recommend?
You’re trying too hard in my opinion. I’ve had several WILDS and in my experience the key is not to try to force things. Try to spend several nights just observing your HI. Spend hours just doing this and keep the idea of maintaining your consciousness in the background, like a small bead of thought. If you make it the most important issue it will keep you awake, or you will almost enter a WILD and then jolt back awake at the crossover point. If you take the time to just become familliar with your HI, without the pressure to enter a dream, it should increase your chances in the long term, and you may find that you have spontaneous WILDS without really trying. The key is relaxation, and trying too hard works against this.
Good luck!
If lying on your back becomes uncomfortable, then you should try lying in a more comfortable position. The sucking sensation is part of the “sympthoms” of falling asleep aware, so you could try to become as comfortable as possible and let yourself be sucked into the dream, so to speak. The only downside on being comfortable is that you might fall asleep very fast and not lucid. Anyway, experiment and see what works for you, good luck!
It happens quite the same thing to me, but when I’m entering the HI, my heart rate goes to almost 3 errr…“tucs” per second (dont know the word), and when I try to relax I become almost completly awake…sugestions?
