Hey guys,
just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to the
one I had.
There was a point earlier in the year when I was focusing alot
on dreams and trying to LD (reality checks, dream journals, LD4all)
When the summer came, for whatever reason i fell out of these habits
even though I was making progress.
The week that I gave up doing all of these things, I experienced more lucid
dreams than I had the entire time I had been trying.
I think I had an LD each night for about a week, and I had only had 3 while trying.
At the time i thought it was cool that I becoming lucid, but eventually it just stopped.
Just thought it was weird, and wondered if anyone had any explanation/
similar experience.
Explanation, not really. Although there are a number of people on this forum more knowledgeable than I am who can provide you with one.
Although I guess an interesting comparison would be my guitar playing. Sometimes I’ll be working on learning a song for a few days in a row, and I get stuck, or can’t get it right. Then I put the guitar down for a week or so and when I come back I find that playing is a bit easier.
As far as lucid dreaming goes, I have experienced it with WILD. Back in 2007 or 2008 (I think 2008, but I’d have to look through my archives) I was really into learning how to WILD. Almost obsessed with it. Tried every day (the wrong way) for several weeks. Just let it go after a while and gave up on LD’ing altogether. Then in January 2009, I believe, I achieved one without even trying. My very first.
I guess sometimes things need to sink in, and it’s only when you let go of your obsession that your mind has the opportunity to actually process it subconsciously.
i have a similar experience to Svenshinhan’s:
i had been trying and trying to get a LD but i just couldn’t and so i slowely lost my RC habits. one day, i was so tired that i just went to sleep and i didn’t even think about LD’ing. that night i had my first LD after almost a month of trying. it was really cool, i saw fish floating around in the sky and thought, “is this normal,” and then decided to do a RC just in case. my finger went right through my hand! the only downside is that since i hadn’t thought about LD’ing, i couldn’t think of anything to do and ended up doing random stuff when i could’ve done so much more to grasp the dream’s potential!
Let’s face it, LD’s are only as far out of reach as we make them. Sometimes, not worrying about it and letting our SC do it’s own thing is the best medicine
Being lucid in dreams is not about how many techniques you have attempted before bed, it’s about how aware you are of what’s happening while things are happening.
Forget this simple fact, and you get people dreaming about lucidity, or worse, of being in bed attempting to get lucid; this for the simple reason the act itself of attempting a technique is regarded with unneeded importance, and the consequences are thus shown.
Remember this fact, and you have people simply going to bed with a clear mind, and being able to tell a dream as what it really is by simple observation.
