I understand that in Tibetan buddhism, dream yoga is a very advanced practice. Actions performed in dreams have extrememly powerful consequences for our consciousness. The purpose of dream yoga is not to have lucid dreams but to bring consciousness into all areas of the mind. I am concerned that some of the sleep-disturbing techniques are a little like hallucinogenic drugs, going too deep before we are ready. I have stopped doing Suneye and from now on I will just try and gently observe what happens when I fall asleep. I have finally decided that purifying myself is more important than having exciting experiences in lucid dreams. I have known this for a long time but I was addicted to the other-worldy experience of lucid dreams. I am not trying to avoid them, but I will not use harsh techniques to have them. I have been trying to go too far before I am ready and this is why I have not had any consistent success with lucid dreaming. I think the ‘lucid living’ is a helpful approach.
