Out of curiosity, how do you guys fare with LD attemps in the afternoon as opposed to in the night? Also, in the night, do you do better after having woken up once, or straight away after hitting the hay? Are there any other significant times to LD?
Usually, my dreams aren’t as pleasant nor vivid as night dreams during my afternoon cat naps. I also never seem to become lucid in them.
My LD’s take place at night, for sure. Usually, after just straight up going to sleep.
In my case, LD attempts during early morning (also late morning on weekends ) have the most success. This is normally after waking up at least once and with at least five hours of sleep. On very rare occasions I’ve had a successful attempt after going straight to bed, using a variation of MILD.
I’ve had a few LD’s during naps, but they have all been low level and not very clear. To be fair, I don’t nap that often, so it’s probably not a big enough sample size to count .
I’m not much of a napper (although I wish I was), and the few times I do nap, I don’t really dream. All the magic happens at night for me, and my most vivid dreams happen about 30 minutes before waking.
Early morning to a lesser degree, though if i try to drag them on too long, say past 7am, i lose them. More so in early afternoon, between noon and 3pm when i’m well rested and can experiment slipping in and out.
i’m not a napper either, but… the only times i ever experienced HI was nap time. also, i think i have had roughly the same amount of LD both day and night, but my day ones have been more close together and i could remember them better. which is bad for me cause i hate naps, but looks like they work better for me -.-
edit: which is to say that… when i tried to have an LD, it was easier for me to succeed during the day, provided that i was sleepy enough…
I never nap in the afternoon since I usually drink coffee in the morning. My LDs come mostly in the early morning hours.
My weekends are much like that (whopper of an iced capuccino in the morning), but I usually nap on Mondays, since my body has settled into the rhythm of waking up late etc I have not had any lucid dreams / OBE’s during the day.
I’ve had interesting hypnogogic experiences in the morning (AKA sitting in class with my eyes closed and “seeing” through closed eyelids). This occured about 5 years ago on several occasions.
As for lucid dreaming, I find late night to be most beneficial. After 6 hours of sleep or so, before it is too bright outside.
oh yeah, that’s right! i did that too once. super boring class, and a saw a bush and bunnies in class xD i laughed so hard my teacher asked me what’s wrong… wow. so that’s the only time i ever got HI or HH or something. lol…
I have to say that I tried to have LD afternoon but I couldn’t even get NLD, I just don’t remember any dreams when I’m sleeping afternoon. And I did have more success with LD after waking up at least once during the night, but I’ve also had LD without WBTB technique…
Usually in the morning after woken up once or more times.
