As much of a computer geek as I am, I personally would prefer having a physical journal on my nightstand, so I can quickly jot down notes, sketches, etc., then go back to bed. Sitting at the computer would be a bad idea for me, I think. It would be hard for me to go back to sleep. Plus, all the light intake into the eyes from the LCD monitor reduces melatonin levels, thus making a person more awake (if I understand correctly how melatonin works…).
Anyway, I’m looking for those nifty pens that have a soft glow at the tip when you turn them on or uncap the pen. EMI makes Nite-Writer and Nite-Writer II pens… anyone have experience with these? Are there other better solutions that anyone can suggest?
I have a pen that I got for free when I visited a college a few weeks ago. (YAY FREE STUFF! ) the bottom half of the pen glows blue, and it works really well. It’s bright enough that I can see without turning on a light, dim enough it doesn’t burn my eyes like my normal lights do, and its blue, so it’s automatically cool
maybe you should turn the computer’s internal lightsource down(brightness and contrast) or wear sunglasses to decrease the light-intake from the monitor
or just anny luminating pen you can find lying around:P
personally i just turn my bedside-lamp on if i wake up
One thing I learned from stargazing: RED light doesn’t mess up your night vision or hurt your eyes. If you look at catalogues or websites for telescope accessories you can find lots of red LED flashlights.
All the lighting pens I’ve tried have been terrible pens, for what that’s worth! It does no good to have the thing light up if you aren’t writing with any ink… from experience… don’t get a cheap one.
