My LD’s have always been fairly long (wihtout dream staberlisation too), but latly they’ve been getting incredibly long.
This may not seem like a problem, but it is.
Upon waking, I forget large amounts of the dream. Which, as you can imagine, is very (i mean very really) annoying.
So, my question to you is this:
Should I start waking myself up early once I think I’ve had enough?
Or should I just keep with them and see if my DR improves with them over time?
If I were you I wouldn’t end the LD intentionally (unless you are REALLY fed up with it). During the LD, have you tried to repeat several times to yourself that you will remember the whole dream afterwards? You could also pose for a second and think about the sequence of events which already happened. This might work.
If you have a good grasp of RL time while you LD - Let your LDs go on longer than they used to and once you fell it’s time wake yourself up, a slowly increase the lenght before waking yourself and this should help increase your dream recall -
Personally however throwing yourself in the deep end and just letting them end naturally might be more benificial as waking yourself up might stop you having these longer LDs.
I also have these lengthy LDs from time to time, and I often forget how it all started. Still, I would never wake up prematurely just to recall the beginning, that’s just a waste of LD time. Instead, I stop and think about what I’ve done in my LD every so often so that I’ll remember it when I wake up. Ah curse these lengthy LDs.
Anyways, yeah, like Odd I often forget how I became lucid. Though one time I managed to remember after alot of thinking (I took a RC, cos i had just fallen out of my bedroom window with my pyjamas on in what seemed to be mid day).
The last two lucid dreams I’ve had have both been very long. I find now that I am more experienced in LDs I no longer have trouble sustaining them. I compare it to riding a bicycle, once you know how to do it, you’ll always have that skill. Sometimes a great deal of time will pass between LDs (a month or more) yet when I find myself back in the dreamworld I still have all the skills I’ve ever had. I do agree that after a good amount of time has passed it is quite difficult to remember the entirety of the dream. I have to sit in bed for several minutes and I’m sure some does get lost. The last LD i had (7/6) lasted a half hour or more and I did some incredible things (flying, I attained the highest altitude I’ve ever experienced, dreaking or awake, hundreds of ft. above ground.while flying - and i created colored energy balls, almost like a form of PK?) Well anyway, I was in the dream for so long that I almost ran out of stuff to do. So now I’m going to have to start making lists of all the things I hope to accomplish should I find myself there again. Hopefully tonight.
LoL, Robot Frank? Are you really Robot Frank? I doubt it, but just wondering. Because I talk to Robot Frank on AIM from time to time.
Edit: Eh, maybe you ARE Robot Frank! I think I remember him living in New York…
About the long LD’s — all of my LD’s so far have been like this. I don’t have any problem with it. It’s nice to have long ones more than short ones. But in a few, they do tend to get too long, so I wake myself. This seems like such a waste to me, because I’m blowing off a chance to do anything, but I comfort myself with the fact that I really ran out of things to remember to do.
I guess I’d rather have more medium-length dreams more often. That’d be the ideal LD pattern. The length would be nice, but not so long that you have to wake yourself. You could try out a few fun things each time, instead of having too much time and too little to do (or vice versa). Also having them frequently would allow you to keep trying out new things. Am I repeating myself or anything? Meh.
Yeah I might’ve gone off-topic a little bit. But I find that whenever people do go off topic, it’s very interesting and I get sad that they stopped talking.
Wow, it’s a small world, this internet. I am Robot Frank. Surpised to find me here I’d imagine, but lucid dreaming is my favorite hobby. Such a unique skill so few can appreciate. People never seem to grasp the concept when I describe it… Anyway, I should probably stay on topic.
The last time I was in a lucid dream for too long, I almost felt uncomfortable. Things that I were seeing werent neccessarily frightening, but they did give me a strange sensation, like when I found myself on a balcony looking down over the clouds, as far as you could see. I asked a friend if he’d like to jump down there and fly around for a bit. He said no and I agreed I have no fear of heights, just some things I’ve seen have caused a strange almost unsettling sensation. This isn’t a deterrant of course, I’m eager to get back there. I reality check all day long, my new favorite RC is to test the laws of physics. See if I can put my hand through the wall, or tear off a piece of a solid. I got the idea from somebody on this board I think saying they put their finger through their hand. It’s the same concept, but only applied to everything. That way I’m more likely to do it in any and every situation.
