Do these really exist? As in a bad dream in which you know you are dreamin, know none of this is real, yet you’re helpless and scared anyway. I’ve never experienced one, as whenever I become lucid in a dream, everythin turns good and goes under my control, but I’m wonderin if there’s actually anyone here who HAS experienced such.
I would imagine that bein lucid durin a full blown nightmare might actually be more traumatizin and just plain scarier than an ordinary nightmare.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section or somethin, but I couldn’t figure out exactly where else to put it.
I never had a Lucid Nightmare, in fact I rarely have nightmares, but I do know there are people who have had those. So it definitely exists. Although you know it’s a dream, you still have the unpleasant feelings that make it a nightmare. It could be that you try to overcome your fear but it doesn’t work. Or you just realise you’re dreaming, but the unpleasant feeling in the dream remains.
I don’t think those are really scarier than ordinary nightmares. I actually don’t think there’s really a difference in that point between a lucid nightmare and a normal nightmare. But since I haven’t gotten any, it’s hard to really say that for me. It’s just what I think based on what I’ve heard.
I don’t really have nightmares. I mean, I can get scared in a dream, but I don’t call that a nightmare. It’s seldom that scary, and usually only a small part of the dream. But when I got scared in a LD, it was the most scared I’ve ever been in a dream. I guess because of the vividness and the fact that I felt as though I was there, in the moment.
I’ve felt quite bad too. Shocked. Try throwing your mother off your balcony just for the heck of it, be surprised by the very loud noise when she lands, seeing her dead face and realise what you just did. Maybe it seems worse after having seen so much death on the internet. It sort of, comes back. Not so much terror as horror. Anyway, yeah. Just because you know it’s not real doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect you. Same goes for positive emotions.
Damn, that’s pretty harsh. =/ I know what that horror feelin is like in a dream. I once dreamt that somehow my mom ended up on the subway tracks at a station, and this HUGE train came up and passed over her. I was completely horrified and shocked cause all that was left there was a slight blood stain. That dream freaked me out.
On the other note, I’ve noticed that in many dreams, subways trains tend to be larger than normal, often more menacin and scarier, and the people and the tracks always both are on ground level (unlike in real life, in which people stand on a platform higher than the tracks). And subway stations are often associated with a feelin of either gettin lost, bad incident, danger, exploration and/or the unknown. Often very unpredictable dream places, too.
Before I knew about LDing I had one. If I recall correctly the dream involved Batman and some of his enemies, but then the bad guys started coming after me! Luckily because I was lucid I managed to use the device used in ‘Sliders’ (yes, it was back in the time when that was still populair) to wake myself up. Activate the device, and jump through it and wake up ^^, the question remains… was it a false awakening? Well that didn’t matter I was glad for that to be over.
My SG gave me a lucid nightmare once. It was back when I was still deathy afraid of daddylong leg spiders. I was very lucid, and they still scared me. They were everywhere, the webs too and they were falling from the sky. I remember repeating to myself, “They’re not real, this is a dream!” over and over and I was still scared.
Now I realize he was only trying to help me get over the fear. And it worked… after a few more dreams when I confronted them.
The last time i’ve had a nightmare was when i was 5 so i havent had one in a LONG time. the closest i got to a nightmare was when i had a FA where i had SP and the old hag came and said that it should poison me. And that was only a little scary cuz i knew that it wasnt real.
I do want to try out that LD nightmare. I want to see how it feels like. Im gonna see if i can keep my cool like in RL or freak out like most people.
