I’ve not been trying for very long (so is not a big issue) however I’ve incounted an unusual problem. or maybe it’s normal .
I had a dream where I was still in my PJs whilst attending a class. I was embarrassed to discover that I had forgotten to get changed. I decided that I did not like this dream and tryed to close my eyes and open them again commanding myself to be in normal day clothes. I only had limited success with the embarrassing PJ returning after a few moments. I never really seemed to realise that I was dreaming and taking control.
The question is. How can it be possible to make conscious decisions about what I want my dream to be without actually realising that I might be going lucid?
It has happened to me yesterday (I’ve not been trying for very long, too).
I was in a dream and I went to see Egypt wonders with a “school trip” by bus.
I saw many pyramids, a carved big block with I at first thought it was the sphinx, then the sphinx, some TV guys making a reportage. Everything was just by the Nile River.
When we started to go home some things bothered me, and I started to ask my friends:
Me: “- Where were we right now?”
One said: “- Afghanistan”
Me: “- But where is Afghanistan?”
The other said “- Asia, Middle East, Oceania, whatever.”
Me: “- But how could we get here BY BUS?”
Then the dream vanished, I started to see some 2d characters (probably like the Ancient Egyptian Drawings?) and i knew I was dreaming, but I didnt get ANY control. There was just my voice in my head: “I am dreaming”, and “I know I am dreaming”.
yes that’s pretty much exactly what I mean. Of course it doesn’t make sense but few things do make sense on this topic. I just need to find a way to consciously connect the dots.
cauli - I think what I’m describing is a bit more lucid then what you are describing. My experience also ended in sleep paralysis which is something I don’t have a history of.
From reading the post, this is not a lucid dream ValkyrieChosen. A lucid dream is defined as a dream where somebody realises they are dreaming. It’s possible to have control without being lucid because, our dreams can be anything. You can dream that you can do things you may or may not be able to do in reality, including changing the environment you are in. Likewise it is possible to have a Lucid Dream, with absolutely no control at all. You might realise you are in a dream, but decide not to, or be unable to change the dream.
i’ve had similar experiences to valkyrie’s. one time i was in a dream and i thought to myself, “once i realize i’m dreaming, i’ll do this” and i didn’t actually realize i was dreaming for about five minutes after that. sometimes i think to myself, “i hope i realize i’m dreaming this time!” or other such things, without actually becoming lucid.
GreenDragon - you might be right saying that. But I’m not really concerned about the the OP any longer. Because last night I noticed myself move from one place to another instantaneously. I did a reality check I try to breathe through my nose when I pinched it, something I have been doing during the day. And amazingly I could still pass air. I then tried doing it longer. got the same result unfortunately I got excited and woke up
