So it’s well established and well known that daytime naps produce more frequency and longevity in rem cycles. The one thing I’ve never understood or seen mentioned, is why? What specifically is it that throws you imeadiately into, what usually is, the fourth sleep cycle when a nap begins?
To me I think its just because how awake you are. The reason why I think that is because well I’ve heard that if you should go to sleep when you are not tired so you can have better dream recall and increased vividness but that’s just my opinion.
Hm, so you’re suggesting that it’s most likely related to waking awareness? I can easily see how that makes sense. Like, sleeping typically at night, you’re ready for a full nights rest. But in the daytime, your body doesn’t have such an essential need for the restorative first 3 stages of sleep; and transferring from a state of wakeful awareness to high-functioning rem sleep seems pretty logical. I’m going to try and research this further.
It could also be that our mind is so prone to sleeping while its night or around a certain time like a sleeping schedule, so your mind slowly prepares itself to go to sleep so that when it is around the time you go to bed that you fall asleep easier. Since doing wild for a rem cycle during a nap is a rare occurrence for someone to do that it leaves your mind alert:P
Well, while doing research into what the actual somniologists have to say about it, all the details pointed toward the concept of “entering rem first because it’s a nap” is untrue, and the sleep cycle’s proceed normally in a nap as usual. I’ve made another post about it for relavancy sake
