meeting real people?

Hi, I’m new. So if this is in the wrong place, sorry!

I have lucid dreams regularly, about once a month. This began(the 1x/m thing) when I first moved away from the East Coast–I was deeply in love with a guy, but he let me go. Thereafter, I would have dreams about him once a month for about 12 months (until a few months after I started dating someone new).

So this is nearly 6 years later. I fell in love with someone about a year and a half ago(but we never slept together). And I have lucid dreams about him once a month. Usually it’s because I look at my hands, realize I’m in a lucid dream, and say “I want to go see X!” and then I’m there with him. Or, he shows up and say “You must be having a lucid dream–you’re flying! Me too. Let’s hang out.” However, the last time I lucid dreamed, I could not find him anywhere. I searched and searched(I have a lot of ‘searching for’ dreams), and he was just not there.

So, have you ever run into someone from your real waking life in a dream? Do you think he was lucid dreaming too? If dreams are just in our own minds, why couldn’t I find him–it’s a lucid dream, shouldn’t I be able to call up whoever I like to play with me? Thoughts? Stories? Scathing insults?

(ETA: I have never discussed any of this with this person–I have not had a proper real-time conversation with him for about … oh, a year. I can’t just call him up and say “I had a lucid dream about you last night” because, well, after not talking to someone for a long time it would just be weird, kwim? Besides, my partner would flip.)

Hey, Welcome to the forum!
I’m sure most of everyone here already tried to find someone IRL in a LD.
Actually it can go a lot through of it. I mean you may meet someone famous, a cartoon, someone who already passed away or even yourself in the past or future. (Actually there’s a LD quest about this right now in the forum, you may check that.)

It may work just like that you said, walking over the dream calling the person you want to see, or imagine the person is right over that door, etc.

I believe in SD, but I think it’s a really uncommun experience, so if you don’t ask him you’ll never know

“If dreams are just in our own minds, why couldn’t I find him–it’s a lucid dream, shouldn’t I be able to call up whoever I like to play with me?”

i believe even in a LD the sense of routine (in this case meeting someone) becomes an expectation that can go dry with time. being so used to seeing him may have suppressed abit of your actual will to see him, and like you said dreams are in our own minds, but not just in, they are our minds, they are as much apart of you as the hand you RC with. so, don’t expect it and don’t feel like you must go and search, that’s false, people go all through life searching, all the while what they were looking for was in themselves. calm yourself and just feel he’s beside you, close your eyes and think of how he looked, say his name even, then once he’s felt he might show up, or open a door with best intentions of seeing him. peace
