Hi there. This is my first post here - so be kind!
I have had 7 lucid dreams since i first started trying to develop this skill about a month and a half ago - but lately i am getting very frustrated!
Last night i had a dream i was in a theatre (which happens quite often) there were even a couple of my other dream signs as well so i thought i better do a reality check. I think i got distracted, or didn’t do it properly and i missed out on the chance to become lucid. That makes it three potential lucid dreams i have missed out on for the same sort of reason - considering it could be a dream/or the realization just ‘breaking through’ but then not following it through to becoming lucid.
Could anyone please give me some advice? I had some early success with lucid dreams but now seem to be going backwards not forwards!
Thanks x
(p.s i was too nervous to post for a while - didn’t want to overlap topics already covered - hope this is ok!? )
I recognise how it takes an effort to go from the “Could this be a dream” state to “This is a dream!!” For me, it feels almost the same as when i force myself to be fully awake in the morning before work. It takes a certain mental focus.
Have you tried to stop what you are doing when you ask yourself, and when you realise that it is “probably” a dream, spend a couple of seconds to fully realise that? Ask yourself what your name is, where you live, what you were doing before you went to sleep. It helps me to realise that i am really in a different setting, fully conscious and free.
Hi Siiw. Thanks i will try that. I suspect i keep messing it up because i don’t take the time i should doing RCs during the day. When i have thought about doing an RC during a dream i tend to get too distracted! Its frustrating because in my first week of trying i had 5 LDs and then nothing for a few weeks when i then had two more. I guess im wondering why i can’t replicate that initial success i had… x
First of all, don’t worry about your progress seeming to go backwards. We all wave dryspells and moments where we seem to have little progress. I think I read once (in a Patricia Garfield book, Creative Dreaming) that she noticed in her own studies and practices that she would have moments of little progress. Then it would seem she would have moments of lots of progress, almost as if it was building up and then BOOM! And I’ve seen it happen a few times with me as well.
About the RC thing… it’s funny you should mention it, I just woke up from a dream with a stupidly failed RC! I’ve been LD’ing for almost two years now so I guess it’s just something that just… happens. (I should practice my RC’s, actually)
My point is don’t be discouraged! If you had 5 LD’s in your first week I think that means you don’t really have that hard a time getting lucid. Just keep practicing
Read my sig down bellow, I found it on a random blog but I personally think it’s a great approach. In my DJ I’ve been putting my Highlights for each night, even if I wasn’t even close to lucidity…
Anyway, sorry for the long post and don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have. People are really friendly here and love to help!
Haha! I love your sig Mattias. Thanks for your reply - its good to know that its not just me having a hard time
I’ve promised myself i will keep going with it until i decide i’m ‘quite good’ at lucid dreaming lol. I will try that book you mentioned by Patricia Garfield - i’ve heard its really good. I’m quite excited because i’ve got the book The Lucid Dreamer by Godwin coming from the states - if that doesn’t get me motivated nothing will!
Oh, as for the RCs such is my determination today that i actually jumped up and down in a DIY store today… i don’t think anyone noticed…
