I am now not allowed to wake up at night (13, gotta obey my parents.), as when I tried WILD, It took me 3 hours to fall asleep, and I woke up my mom (She doesn’t like being bothered when she is sleeping) for tips to fall asleep. Blagh.
So now I need methods that don’t require me to wake up at some point in the middle of the night. I already know DILD, and I’ll be doing RCs during the day.
I usually go to sleep at around 11 at night, and I go to sleep pretty easily then, but when I wake up in the middle of the night…
I am a somewhat heavy sleeper. A few years back, I used to be able to sleep through the loudest setting on my digital alarm clock, but it would wake everyone else up . I am not as heavy a sleeper anymore, though.
I can’t use any medication, alcohol, or really anything that costs money to use. My parents barely let me continue my interest of Lucid Dreaming as it is, and I just barely got one night a week to wake myself up (gone now).
If I wake up during the night, I am going to stay up. I can’t get back to sleep.
Maybe meditating before? I don’t really know. What I wonder is why you don’t set up an alarm with earphones, allowing you to wake up without waking anyone else up
When you go to sleep, repeat this in your head at your first language : at 6 a clock tomorrow i am going to wake up. Do this a long time (don’t count) then when you wake up at six repeat this : the next time I’m dreaming i am gonna realize it’s a dream.
Just like Frequent said, you can have the intention to wake up at a ceratain time. I would choose for a time earlier than 6 o’clock. For me, around 4 or 5 works better. I always wake up using my alarm (which is my nintendoDS, I only use it as an alarm because I can plug earphones in it so nobody wakes up). But another way to wake up without your parents hearing it is just drinking two glasses of water and having to go to the bathroom at night. If your parents even wake up from that, at least you’ve got a reason.
Also, MILD is a pretty good method before going to sleep. It makes your mind and SC focused on LD’ing. If I really need my sleep, I use MILD without waking up at night for it and I still have some LD’s.
By the way, I’m 17 and pretty much allowed to sleep whenever I want, but I still don’t dare to tell my parents about my LD’ing. I’m afraid they’ll think I’m crazy, especially my dad, who’s the most down-to-earth man I know xD.
You could try WILD at the beginning of the night, but everyone advises against it. You could still attempt it, but combine it with a mantra so if it doesn’t work you still may get LD.
Some people sleep with binaural beats or LD inducing tracks on their headphones. You can just extract the audio from Youtube. I don’t personally like them, but it might work for you.
Also, some drink Apple juice or eat an apple before bed due to the B6 content which is supposed to be good for dreaming.
Yeah I have this problem as well. I do manage to get back to sleep if I take my time, but it takes a large dent out of potential REM time in the early morning. I certainly can’t WBTB as that wakes me up too much, and repeating a mantra tends to be problematic too.
I’m afraid it does tend to be necessary to take advantage of this REM period as it is the best time for lucid dreams (unless you wish to try afternoon naps as well). This is why I cannot do lucid dreaming stuff during term time. I’ve worked out that I can get to sleep after a while in the morning as long as I don’t stress about it, but it certainly shortens the overall amount of sleep I get. My solution is to have a cycle of one rest night where I only focus on dream recall (and don’t focus on waking up early) and two nights where I use induction techniques.
The other alternative may be, as you say, to aim for DILDs. Having not had a lucid dream yet, I cannot compare the two possibilities. Best of luck!
If waking up in the middle of the night disrupts your sleep that much, don’t do it! It’s usually easier to get a LD after some hours of sleep, but screwing up your sleep won’t help you at all.
If you are able to nap, you can try LD’ing then. I can rarely nap and when I do I rarely remember any dreams…
Focus on your dream recall and MILD. Do autosuggestions to remember dreams and realize you’re dreaming before bed. These things can also lead to LD’s, there’s no NEED to do WBTB.
I usually wake up naturally in the middle of the night anyway, most people do (most don’t even realize it), and fall asleep quite easily. If you never wake up naturally then you can try the ideas above.
plus, you shouldn’t try WBTB on school days anyway, it will usually just get you less sleep. You can try WBTB on weekends, perhaps? You can even extend the time asleep. For some reason WBTB gives me the best results when I sleep around 8 hours before waking up… I get up, eat breakfast and go back to sleep. It does take me a while to fall back asleep, but I’ve been able to have some amazing LD’s like this. Doing WBTB like this, even if you aren’t able to fall asleep you still have had 8 hours of sleep, so it’s pretty good good luck!
