I recently have had my first lucid dream There were many factors that could be attributed to it. Keep in mind I have been trying for like two years unsuccessfully. The Dream was like this. I was in my bed laying on my side and I randomly tried a reality check. I put my left index finger through my left palm. The dream room was pitch black so I could not see my reality check so while I was doing it I hooked my right ring finger around my left palm and I could feel my right index finger poking out the other side. I thought to myself that I wish I could see it and I somehow was transported to my computer desk where I was on YouTube and listening to Only the Good Die Young by Iron Maiden I did the reality check again and it was insane. I never imagined it to be so lifelike. I then got up from the computer desk and I awoke in real life. There were so many differences in the way I was sleeping, which is why I post this. What do you guys think is the most important of these factors?
-I was wearing a combination of a T shirt, socks, boxers, jeans and a sweatshirt
-I fell asleep that night at around 2 in the morning slept until 8:30 am and then fell asleep again at 10:30 am and slept until 1 pm where I had the LD
-I had nothing in my system ie. no food drink drugs or alcohol when I had the LD
-I did not listen to music before I went to bed as I usually do
There were others I will post them if I remember them.
First off, it’s usually a good thing to have an empty stomach when going to bed, as some food tends to disturb the transition, especially alcohol and the like.
Secondly, it’s best to have an calm/relaxed mind when going to sleep, and that could include not listening to songs, that probably carry plenty of thoughts with it.
Also LOL @ a LD at 1PM, that could have something to do with it, since it’s (supposedly) a time where you are normally awake, so the mind tends to be more in the aware/awake state during that period, even in dreams. It’s what CAT bases itself off.
Anyway, plenty of congratulations for your first LD! now you know what one’s like. Have you ever tried seeing yourself in a LD and doing all the stuff you’d want? Have a try at it, especially before bed, instead of listening to music. It greatly helps with putting your mind in the right frame
I would say that the two hours of being awake between 8:30 and 10:30 also contributed.
Many people do Wake Back To Bed in the early morning, where they get up after 5-6 hours of sleep and stay awake for about an hour to an hour and a half. So essentially you kind of duplicated that.
Getting a lot, but interrupted sleep usually does the trick for me, so that would be my guess.
BTW, don’t forget that you can also DO stuff in your LD…I also got stuck on the RC once, like you did with your finger. Only for me it was like: “COOL! I CAN BREATH TO MY PINCHED NOSE…THAT FEELS FUCKING WEIRD!” and continued repeating the RC till I woke up.
These posts have been really helping me. I have been loosely remembering a dream a night trying a technique I have come up with from these replies.
