My "Favourite Movie" Thread

Hehe yeah… Harry Potter 1st and 2nd were great, but 3rd movie was DISAPPOINTING! Oh well hopefully when 4th one comes out… it would be much better than 3rd one.

American Beauty, Life of Brian, Pulp Fiction and of cause all the weird ones (Memento, Virtual Nightmare, Dark City, Fight Club…)

To mention some nice german movies:

Knocking on heavens door
Lola rennt (Lola run)
Das Experiment (The experiment)
Das weisse Rauschen

In my opinion all of those four are highly recommendable.
First one is beautiful and funny, second is weird and funny, third is interesting and disturbing, last is interesting and weird and disturbing

Oh yes Lola Rennt is definitely weird but it’s a really great movie!! Excellent camera work btw

Tapir: are you going to watch Der Untergang? You know, that controversial movie about Hitler’s last hours. I’d like to see it, but I’m not sure if it’s ever going to be released here…

It’s uhm… disturbing?
imdb.com/title/tt0296042/

some people hate it, some people dig it, and some just doesn’t get it.

I’m not much of a movie watcher, and it’s hard to think of 10. I’ll edit more in here as I remember some.

Here are a few:

-> The Wizard of Oz
-> The Color Purple
-> The Goonies
-> The Time Machine <- the original, I have not seen the 2002 version.

hehe, wow, a lot of "the"s

EDIT:added URLs, and the 4th title

WOOT FOR SCOTLAND! Heh.

I just have to say (cause I’m weird), thanks holy reality for liking Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and DreamAddict for liking The Goonies. Those two silly movies rock!

Everyone should just watch Donnie Darko. I have not met anyone that doesn’t like that movie. Notice everyone that has it on their list has it as their #1 or #2.

1: Waking Life.
2: American Beauty.
3: Donnie Darko.
4: Cradle Of Fear.
5: AVP.
6: Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas.
7: Requiem For A Dream.
8: Clerks. (The animated one).
9: Ghost In The Shell.
10: Kill Bill (One & two).

I think you’d find a great many people who didn’t like Donnie Darko. It just really depends on who you’re talking to.

Favorites
-Matrix (all)
-Harry Potter (all, to some degree)
-Dune (the new ones, mind you!)
-Anything with Hugh Jackman: “Van Helsing” “X-Men 1 and 2” “Someone like you” “Kate and Leopold” “Swordfish” (though I hate John Travolta) and so on
-Almost everything with Mel Gibson (The Passion, Maverick, Hamlet [melt], Braveheart)
-movies I grew up with (The Last Starfighter, The Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story, etc.)
-AVP
-The Ten Commandments
-Mortal Combat (hey, it’s entertaining, okay?)
-The One
-Stay Tuned (it’s simple humor and it’s got John Ritter)

Let’s just list most of the movies I’ve ever seen!

However, Not Favorites:
-Fight Club (had to turn it off)
-The Talented Mr. Ripley (had to turn it off)
-Grease (never started it barf)
among others…

Because of the comments praising the film “Donne Darko”, I went out and rented the video. I watched the whole movie and I must say I found it to be a mediocre film. Highly over rated and boringly confusing at times. But not a bad movie. It’s okay but save your money on this film and wait until it comes on television and watch it for free. Cannot recommend it. :bored:

Yeah, Darko is very overrated, I’d agree… one of the most dissapointing films I’ve ever seen. That doesnt mean it’s a terrible film, just that the hype is completely out of proportion with the film itself.

The following films all have the highest possible recommendation from me:

Adaptation (See. It.)
Human Nature (comedy about nature vs nurture)
American Beauty (suburban life)
The Thin Red Line (a philosophical war film)
The Wings of Honneamise (beautiful anime following a civilization’s first space mission)
Princess Mononoke (another beautiful anime set in a world of gods and spirits)
Millers Crossing (best gangster film. Ever)
The Big Lebowski (“The Dude abides”!)
Waking Life (you’ve all seen it right?)
Ghost World (unusual romantic comedy)
Living in Oblivion (film about making a film, also about dreams and reality)
Shaun of the Dead (romzomcom: romantic zombie comedy!)

Edit: Ooooooops! Posted on wrong thread!

Anyways, now that i posted here. Gotta praise the movie ‘Other Worlds’ i saw last night by Jan Kounen. It was about amazonian shamans, and their use of Ayahuasca elixir containing DMT. Also many other intresting scientific points very given from use of psychedelics, very enlightening movie that had lots of respect for sacred entheogenic usage for healing and knowing oneself better.

Here comes description:

I never go to the cinema… And though I live in the area of the Great Russian CopyLeft, I still have to wait until new films are show on the TV. And until they are shown in the time when I can get to the TV set. So I hardly saw anything of what was mentioned here. And what I like from what I saw was:
Terminator 2 (I know the first was better, but I like this one! )
The Silence of the Lambs + Hannibal
Dracula
Forrest Gump
Futurama (does it count?)
Roman Holiday

Plus my favorite Soviet films (just to steal your time, in fact):
Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Occupation
Lyubov i golubi (Love and Pigeons)
Mimino
Samaya obayatelnaya i privlekatelnaya (Most Charming and Attractive)

  1. EVer AfTer!
  2. Tuck everlasting
  3. Underworld
  4. The prince and me/i

Lol as some of u might slightly be able to tell, i have a varied range of likes when it comes to movie genres Lol…from love/girly movies to the gruesome and bloody movies…but thast Mee lol

You can’t blame me for praising my favorite movie. I like almost all the movies you listed Lebowsk1. A few I have never heard of, but will probably check them out now that you have mentioned them.

Movies that make you think are the best movies out there, which is one of the main reasons Donnie Darko is my favorite.
