My hands and text

There’s 2 main things about my dreams that I’ve always found special. One of those things is that the most vivid dreams always have some kind of feeling I can’t explain. Something about the storyline and what happened. If you told me one of my “special” dreams that I didn’t know, I could easily guess it was mine.

The other thing is that I’ve always been able to read text, and see my hands normally. But the 14th lucid dream I had (last night), sort of confused me. About 40% of my dreams had text in them, and I could always easily read it. This dream, just looking at it hurt my eyes, it was blurry and always changing. My hands looked gross and the fingers were all blurred.

Now from what other people say, this is normal, but this is the first time that I’ve ever had this happen, so for me it’s kind of strange. I’m worried now that I won’t be able to read text anymore, and I’m sure worrying will just make that happen, but does anyone know why it would suddenly change from always being stable to blurry and weird?

When did you hear blurred text and deformed fingers were normal…? Was it between LD 13 and 14?

Everyone says that. People use messed up text as a reality check which has never worked for me because I can normally see text fine. People also say they use looking at their hands as a reality check because hands often look wrong in a dream, which also doesn’t normally happen to me. I didn’t hear much between LD 13 and 14 because they were right beside each other. I’ve been hearing that pretty much since I started lucid dreaming, which was about 6 months ago.

[color=olive]Oh okay never mind that question then.

Speaking of the hand RC, I used to use that one frequently and occasionally regenerate my fingers until my hands began to appear as they would IRL…

I’m sure we’re on the same page with this by now, but it wouldn’t hurt to say it anyway. If the obscure text and deformed fingers continue to trend it would be a good idea to shift gears and use that as an RC. Try paying more attention to text and your hands in RL so it can carry over into your dreams. The RC may help increase your lucidity rate.

Funny that I’m seeing this post today, since becoming lucid only three times since I began my dream journey, I usually use my hands as my RC… BUT last night I did see my hands in my dream and from what I remember they were normal, except my engagement ring was missing and I was accusing my sister in law of playing tricks on me… never became lucid  Should I look for a new RC? Can the “rules” shift like this often?

[color=olive]Believe so. At some point my reflection in the mirror was spot on.
As of now I’m trying to concentrate more on the sense of feel and use that as an RC, but it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. Probably my inconsistency and timing.

The rules will tend to shift from time to time often varying among individuals. I believe it can be controlled through training.

You’re not the only one, clustafer, my ability to read text in LD’s is pretty much the same as waking life. The only variable for me is tiredness.

The more exhausted I am, the harder it is to focus on text, though it is still readable it drains energy trying to focus on it. The same is true for me in ND’s as well, although in those the text will often change between readings.

When it comes to dreaming, there are no rules. We are all different, we experience things differently, as a result we’re not all going to have the and peculiarities in dreams.

Other things I find work fine for me are lights/lamps. Many people seem to have issues with those in dreams, where I find they normally work fine. The only exception to that would be bad dreams, but since it’s only bad dreams where they fail, that makes me lucid almost instantly.

Pretty sure I’ve made up my mind now that anything not working in dreams, that we know works in real life, and have clear memories of working, is just because of tutorials telling you that. I think people expecting, or even just having a memory of being told they might not work, causes them to sometimes work, and sometimes not. Anyway great to see some posts in general discussion, it’s been quiet lately.
