New System, should be very effective if executed properly

A good friend of mine approached me a couple of days ago and asked me about lucid dreams etc and more specifically, how can they be induced. A very interesting thing came up to my mind then.
I told her to meditate on her back before going to sleep while repeating the mantra,
I Am Falling Asleep / I am on my bed
until she fell asleep.
The fellow meditators here should understand that when a mantra meditation is performed effectively the mantra enters the subconscious and then the SC will start saying it, you can notice sometimes that even if you stop consciously focusing on it, something in your head will still be saying it at the pace you did.
Anyway, she tried it yesterday and it worked.
She remembered finding herself all of the sudden inside a dream, whilst instantly knowing, it was a dream.
I would like to hear what different people have to say if they will try this method.
Hope this helps someone.

Sounds for me like MILD-meditation. Of course it works, two relaxing methods in one, Ill try it :cool_raz:

How long was she meditating? This could be a great way to get lucid if it doesn’t take too long.

about 20-30 minutes
the thing is it doesnt really matter, what matters is you focus on the mantra until you fall asleep. not letting other thoughts enter at least to the level it is strongly held in your SC

So the point is to turn to sleep of this method

Hmm, sounds like the method I used last night. I did the mantra in my head for a bit and my subconsious continued it. And then I did the stupidest thing possible: I woke up. :ack:

lol
its important to continue until you fall asleep, the stronger it is held in your SC, the better the results will be, a highly experienced meditator will surely have no problem doing this, but for people who dont practice meditation, it probably wont be that effective.

that’s what i usually do, i call it «incubation».

it doesn’t demand much of a disciplined meditation once you get used to it (in fact, you don’t need to particularly repeat a mantra, or do it all the way till you fall asleep), and you can actually get much more specific than just achieving lucidity by incubation. it’s a great technique!

edit. — as for the efficiency, it’s very high. meditation, incubation and introspection are what got me out of a very bad nightmare-every-night period. if you do practise it regularly (not just incubation, but meditation at other times too), by the end of the first month you’ll be having lucid dreams almost at will.

no doubt
Ever since I started meditating daily
I have at least 1 LD almost every night.
80% of my dreams turned into lucid ones on my order, sometimes I cant remember my dreams but when I do at least one will be a lucid one.
not to mention this is really one of the lower qualities of meditation in my opinion. The benefits are really endless and amazing.
What is introspection?

as mystical as it sounds, «introspection» is simply how i call «giving a damn». like staying those extra ten minutes in bed to fish for dream, like thinking about them during the day and trying to recall the details, like trying to interpret them (not too pretentiously, just casually throw some ideas around), you know the drill: making your dreaming hours an active part of your waking life.

what’s your mantra bruno?

and what kind of meditation do you do relv?

i’ve tried all kinds of mantras (i think there’s a description of a mantra incubation, somewhere in my dream journal). they don’t really make much of a difference for me, as i’m usually more feeling than wording.

usually, i try to fish, mentally, for that very particular sensation there is to becoming lucid. there’s a quality to the moment you realise you’re dreaming that i find unique: i try to reconstruct that. when i’m lazy, i do so visually: i just tell myself the story of me getting lucid. when i’m in a more serious mood, i try to actually reconstruct the feeling, experience it, if you know what i mean.

the problem with the later is that it starts to get you paranoid, at some point. they have an expression for this: i believe it is «lucid living».

edit. — found a mantra. (i called it a prayer, but that’s just my catholic background talking, it’s the same thing).

wow.

i know the sensation you mean.
so… you think about the sensation while repeating a mantra?

I do all kinds of meditation, not relating to LDs. I always had my way to LD, generally, meditating boost your success by a lot.
I do the breath types of meditation, all kinds of mantras and I recently started trying the flower meditation.

no, i either think about the sensation, or repeat a mantra. to be quite honest, i’m not a mantra guy. even though «rinzai» sounds way cooler, my heart is at home with soto and its wordless quality.

hmm.
how poetic.

Seems interesting.
There’s so many new techniques lately, you don’t know what to try first.

how about developing your own?
you know the best what will work for you…
