Nightmares & repressed thoughts

I had a nightmare last night which got me thinking about what nightmares actually are and what causes them. In the dream (after a LOT of random dream happenings) I remember watching a TV show or movie or something. The dream itself I have found was made of a number of things that I haven’t though of in a long time. After some more weird dream happenings(trying hard not to bore people here) a ‘narration’ type voice said, ‘Whatever happens today we have to accept it tommorrow, although, for some, there is no tommorrow.’ After this I saw a man being killed by some weird humanoid figure. After this I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep because I was worried that because I was trying to repress the thought of the humanoid figure I’d get SP and FA.

Anyway, would anyone like to share theories on nightmares?

Personally, I think that a good deal of nightmares is due to your subconscious trying to tell you something in the most blatant way. In Psychology, one concept taught is that of the ‘shadow’. This is the collection of all repressed material. Over time, and left undealt with, it will get ever darker and will eventually present itself (though it may be unidentifiable and thus harder to deal with /resolve at that point). The way to deal with it, is to acknowledge it, not run from it (cuz you cant), and it wont seem so bad once you go into it and actually try to resolve it (which is what it actually truly wants). I don’t know if the ‘shadow’ concept applies in your situation.

hmmm. I’ll try to get lucid tonight and try it.

My dream self is soooo damn stupid. I reverse time and still think that it is reality.
