This only happens when I’m at work. Im a paramedic so when we have down time i sleep in the recliner. When im very tired i “dream” about the room that I am asleep in. The problem is I am not sure if this is sleep paralysis or what. Sometimes i can see the entire room and other times I can only see in the direction my head is facing (when I wake up). Its like sleep paralysis where i feel like i cant “physically” move, however I get the sensation that I can move my entire body with my mind. I have felt like ive slid out of the chair before, like ive moved around on the floor, like i floated to the ceiling, I have even seen myself sitting in the chair. Hopefully someone can explain this to me. I have only actually went from this situation to a dream one time. another weird thing is depending on which way my head is turned, I can even see what my work partner is doing. Whats the deal???
I’ve heard people say this happened when they worked on WILD. They would get to the stage where they were asleep, but their mind was awake, but not have a dream incubated, so they would just come out into the room they were in. People describe this as rolling out of bed, and realising their body was still there. So while you could call it an out of body experience, its just a lucid dream in the room you went to sleep in.
So were you aware that you were dreaming? Or did this post answer your question?
From my experiences, I figured out that you don’t actually “see” but you sense it. It’s not exactly what’s happening, but it’s pretty close to it.
I was in sleep paralysis and I went out of body in my living room. I saw my dad change the channel, and I heard the difference (he changed from sports to news). I could hear the news anchor, but it was total gibberish when I tried to concentrate on it. (I was sleeping beside him)
Well it’s either SP or it’s OBE.
I vote for SP. In SP you may experience various hallucinations or you may not. It’s really from person to person. So you said that you once proceed to dream from this state so this could easily be a SP and also your sensation of being able to move is also a sensation/hallucination and you can use that to enter dream/lucid dream like
brendonnelly suggested!
It’s funny because I am usually aware that I am still asleep, every time this instance happens I know I’m still asleep, every time I’m to the no doubt sleep paralysis point I usually just get freaked out because I can’t move so I try until I jerk awake.
Actually this is what an OOBE is. People confuse it because they want to attribute something mystical to it but that’s all it is. An OOBE is a very vivid lucid dream which takes on the attributes of things around you. I frequently get this with WILD.
I’ve never thought of it that way before. While it does make some sense, how do you explain those that have OOBEs and go into different rooms?
dryates: All I can say is try an experiment. Try to get “out” of your body when this happens and go up and see what your coworker is doing. If he /she is writing try to read it. Then wake up and test to see if you got it right… It’d be a win for OOBE enthusiasts everywhere if you got it right!
You can rise/float out of your body to wherever you like, but the closest to the classic OOBE is to float into a mirror of reality. My point is that there is a very fine line between LD and OOBE.
