On Psipog. "The truth will set you free."

But a safe bet in most cases, nonetheless.

And I’m not referring only to the videos, but also to any picture/description/etc.

Perfectly good assessment, PL.

But of course, what to do if, against all possible odds, we were wrong anyway?

This brings to mind Paschal’s Gambit. The potential gain of testing the belief structure of Psionics and finding it to be legitimate outweighs the negligible gain of merely dismissing it.

There is the nagging detail of never being totally sure without testing the Belief System. So should we test the Psionics B.S. or not?

Yes, there may be some genuine cases. But it’s going to take a while before they can be recognized as such. If ever.

This sort of thing has been tested, and if we had found any sort of significant evidence for psionics it would have been incorporated into out modern understanding of reality. This hasn’t happened, so in the absence of evidence we aren’t under any obligation to believe in such things anymore. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep an open mind, but it does make us think about whether there is actually any good reason to believe in this stuff in the first place.

Precisely where Parapsychology fits into the picture. True, Josh, but we can never conclusively test it that way due to the File Drawer problem. So it is understandable that Subjective Experience is the only way to test its validity.

Subjective experience isn’t a reliable way to test anything, not if you’re doing it scientifically. You can test psionics perfectly well as long as you are careful (using double blind conditions, etc), and this sort of stuff has been done (Here is a good example with water divination). Do date, I’m not aware of any reliable data in favor of psionics…of course that doesn’t mean psionics isn’t real, but again, in the face of a complete lack of evidence, we’re not required to believe that such things exist.

Oh realy?

Psionincs can be aproved AND disaproved. If we can prove that we have a perfect picture of the world, and psionics does not fit in, than it is disaproved. If anyone will pass the randi test, I think it will be enough to prove psionics.

Yes it can. The claims made by people who say they can do these things are every bit as subjectable to testing as any other scientific hypothesis. If someone says, “I can move a psi wheel with my mind,” that is a statement that is potentially falsifiable and is subject to scientific examination.

As for psipog or any other organization of paranormal practitioners, I don’t dismiss them all as liars either. Of course you get the occasional con-artist, but I think it’s just a matter of people fooling themselves. I know, because I’ve been there.

I was referring to the File Drawer problem with that line. <_<

They could be fooling themselves I suppose.

But somehow I dont think so…
PS: you’re a H.P Lovecraft fan Genkai ?

Yeah, as a matter of fact Sakoda, I started a topic on him a while ago. Don’t think that anyone actually posted in it though.

So you’re trying again(so the next time I RV you ill be able to see you sitting before your pinwheel  ? )

I suppose, though I don’t believe that it is real, I would be pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise.

You mean RV , or psionics in general ?
btw HEEELLLOOO this dicussion needs new people responding (most is genkai and paradise lost !)

Anyone know how he moved this psiwheel in his video?

He confessed. The link was in the video description. (Which, evidently, no one reads.)

hehe seems so …
