Once an LDer, quit, and am back again.

Hey there, I used to be into LDing and visited these forums quite a bit, anyways, i forget why, but at some point i gave up on LDing, i’ve only come close to a full LD once but it sort of felt like even though i realised it was a dream and actually flew and felt so cool, it still felt like something was controlling me, like a third person view.

Anyways, I’m back now and thats all that matters, and what i need from you guys is a list, a list of things I should get to help me with my re-entering. What i need is:

  1. The Physical things i need, like a dream journal, etc

  2. The Best form of LDing for a beginner, Last time i never really had a method, i would just write down my dreams i remembered and chant in my head as i was falling asleep “i will have a lucid dream, i will have a lucid dream…etc etc”

  3. Anything else i need to know, or need to have.

Thanks so much, and good luck with your dreams:D

  1. Dream journal is very good. Place to sleep. Pencil. But you know that already. You may find it useful to read a book on lucid dreaming before bed. And/or some sort of text for reality checks.

  2. Do what technique you find interesting and within your capabilities. Try to be more aware during the day.

The technique I started out with was RC’s during the day, then I later added MILD. RC’s alone got me LD’s 2 or 3 times a week.

Just make sure you always ask yourself if you’re dreaming when you do them. Questioning reality will eventually spill over into your dreams when it becomes habit.

DILD methods are simpler for beginners, I find (autosuggestion, MILD, RC’s). If you use a mantra, don’t say “I’ll have a LD” but “I’ll realize I’m dreaming”. It’s VERY different cause if you never have had a LD, you don’t know what is “to have a lucid dream”. But it’s easy to understand what is “to realize that you are dreaming”.

oh wow thanks BW. That actually makes alot more sense, I’ve only ever had 1 semi-lucid dream, so how could my mind know what it is to lucid dream haha. I’ll definately start trying that one.

Also, whats some good, quick, easy RC’s i can do just about anytime anywhere, that doesnt look too weird if i do it in the middle of class?

Thanks.

  1. counting fingers
  2. try to push a finger through other hand
  3. look at some text, look away, then look at it again to see if it has changed
  4. this one is hard to explain, but when you breathe, there’s a muscle in your throat that you can close that will prevent you from breathing. When you do it you will feel pressure in your lower throat. If you can still breathe though, it’s a dream.

There are also some mental RC’s which have been recently told about in the last posts of the BIG RC topic. Completely discrete cause you don’t have to do anything but thinking.

Im a off, and on againe LDer, and its allway frustrating getting back into it, because I have to start from scratch with recalling dreams, and what not. Once I get the ball rolling its easy, its just getting the ball rolling back to where I was having two or three LDs a week. I wish I had indurance to keep it going.

Im glad you mentioned that one! I always had such a hard time describing that one, and knowing if it will work or not (since plugging your nose is too…weird in public).lol

Dude. Plugging your nose > other RC’s. Plus, most kids at school know I LD, so eh.

Usually, I trigger RC’s when I misplace something or find it in a different place than I thought it was, or I feel/think something I wouldn’t normally think IRL.

Also, looking at your nose isn’t too conspicuous, as well as seeing if you have glasses on/if they’re working properly.

Speaking of inconspicious RCs. Try the thinking back on your situation thing. It can at least tell you if a real RC is in order.
